Trying to toy with the incoming caller ID so that when technicians call in from their cell phone, it displays "BOB CELL" "ANDY CELL" instead of their phone number. This is probably very simple but I'm striking out on where to do it.
Look what number is shown in phone displays for incoming calls. Directory entries have to match that number. If you have optional digits you can add brackets to match numbers with or without these optional digits like regional prefixes.
Maybe I am doing this a different way, but I am using tagging for the same purpose at a client of mine and it doesn't have anything to do with the directory. I just manipulated the incoming call route. So, say Bob's cell number is 123-456-7890. I created an incoming call route as follows:
Line group: Matches your PRI line
Incoming number: put only a * in this entry.
Incoming CLI: 91234567890
Tag: Bob's Cell
Destination for me is the AA as all calls route through the attendant first.
I always use the directory for this, after all an Incoming call route doesn't appear in the directory for outbound use, and too many ICR will slow the system in the end
using ICR as suggested by Telecomboy will work but it is impractical if you also want the mobile user to be able to dial DDI's. Do you really want to force your own staff to call everyone Via reception (she will hate you!).
