i will be heading down there for it. It will be my first time at one of these things.
 
What are they like? Is it worth the time and money to attend?
 
It's definitely worth the time, i haven't been to the last two,, but all the ones I've been to have been helpful.

Check out thread690-1345020 - jfh9219 has some good advice for getting the most out of the conference.

I work in San Antonio (the host city this year) so for the first time, all of our telecom department (myself and my backup) are able to attend! Normally, we trade off - I go one year, she goes the next. The weather is quite nice this spring - we've been in the mid 80's lately, so May should see us only in the low-mid 90's. If you have some free time while at the conference, take a walk down to The Alamo.

I concur...it is helpful, depends on your wants and the sessions you attend. Some are better than others. I went to the one in Miami. I found it to be really helpful.

I am in Austin TX myself... I could throw a rock really hard several times and hit San Antonio.

Anybody have any ideas on how we could identify each other at the conference? Perhaps something on our name tags? How about a blue or black dot on the top right hand corner of the tag? Any better ideas?

I am going for the first time myself. I just finished booking the flight and getting a hotel. The hotels are going fast around the conference center, if you want to spend less than $200 a night. I had to stay within budget, so I am a couple of blocks from the conference center.

As wildcard said, we should see if there is a way for some of us that use the forum to meet face to face. I shouldn't be hard to find, as my name is my login here (G.B. Lucas).

I decided that this would be a good time for my wife to get away for a week (after all, we have 6 kids), so she is coming along for the ride. She is going to go sight seeing while I am at the conference during the day. We are going to meet for lunch, go shopping on the off times and have dinner out on the town every night.

Anyone else going? Everything that I have heard on this forum as well as others that I have talked to, this is an event that is not to be missed. Everyone should go to at least one every few years. We are upgrading to CM4.0 soon, so I hope that this will be helpful to learn some new features. Anyone with good ideas to help with the events, or must see classes, please help all of us newcomers.

Are most people on here members of the INAAU and is it a good thing to get into?
 
I just signed up to be an InAAU member. You have to pay your membership in order to go to the conference. Goto and check it out. The classes at the conference seem to be worth the yearly membership. I am looking forward to going to the conference and learning from the classes. I have been working in Telecom in some capacity or another for more than 15 years, and working with Avaya products for 7 years, and I can't wait to see how good these classes are. I have gone to several seminars put on by BP's and I have always came away with something that would improve the way we do business. To answer your question, I would say that it is probably 50% membership, but that is just a guess.

I'll be going, second time for me. Was really valuable to me and my prior as well as current employer. Looking forward to it, well worth the trip and time.

InAAU membership is $250 and the conference is $1475 if you sign up by May 4th, then it goes up...

Mikey would love to go. Unfortunately I have way too much going on to be able to get away.

Some engineering genius decided to renovate a floor of one building here that took 6 telecomm closets away. One houses around 900 network connections that feeds 3 other floors. Of course they need this space "NOW". I also have another 4 story building to open up ASAP So I have way too much to do.

We all will meet up another time I am sure. We will make it happen. I do hope that all of you that do get to get away and attend enjoy the show and the time away from work.

So...Back to wildcard's original question...How are we going to find each other at the conference, for those of us who are going? I have found this forum to be really helpful and it would be nice to put a face or 2 with some of the names on here.

Any suggestions, since I have never been to one of these conferences?

If I'm not mistaken, lunch is provided. How about we try and meeting at lunch.... say sitting at the table closest to the entrance of the lunch room? Each day...

I'm also going to put a black dot on the top right corner of my badge :)

Perhaps I should stand on a table an announce "ALL TEK-TIPS USERS MEET OVER HERE".... boy that would be a sight. LOL

I do hope at least some of us get together..

Hmmmmm..... here's a thought. I was reviewing the agenda, and I noticed the following class:

This presentation is a compilation of information that has been gathered over the years. Every time we learned something new, we documented it. This information comes from Avaya-List Yahoo site, Avaya documentation, INADS, InAAU Conferences, Definitive News/InAAU InSIDER, Local User Group Meetings and other system administrators. Included are admin commands, vectoring, conferencing, web sites, Audix, call centers, and the Fault and Performance tab in Avaya Site Administration.

Notice that Tek-Tips is missing from the list? We could attend one of the two sessions, tell everyone about TT, and meet each other at the same time.

Otherwise, I'm afraid that we'll have to listen to wildcard yelling from a tabletop at lunchtime....
