Waitaminute... Their were kids in that video??? I guess I was busy looking at the assets... [peace]

Seriously though I gotta say, and even though I don't have kids, it is irresistable to see a baby smile or laugh without smiling myself. My nephew's about two months old, and every time I see him he gives me a huge grin. It's the highlight of my week.

However, I would gladly trade in a couple of those grins for a peek at those assests...... LOL

BillyRayPreachersSon:
I'm testing a hypothesis.

My hypothesis is that if someone is sufficiently adversely affected by the video to post to the thread a comment in the negative, then that someone is very like not a parent.

[Please note that I specifically asked whether you were a parent, not whether you had children. "Having children" is a simple state of being, whereas "being a parent" is a vocation.]

People who identify themselves as parents, I think, are going to find the laughing of children pleasurable. It seems to me correct that it would be a survival trait if such a thing were true. I know it was true in myself. Twenty-five years ago, I had no use for children -- they were simply protected vermin that got underfoot but about which you could do nothing. Now that I am older and married and have yard-apes of my own, the sounds of any children having fun makes me feel good and the sound of my own children having fun especially so.

Sleipnir214 - I love that 'yard-apes'. Very descriptive, having just spent the weekend running after my youngest as he attempts to ride his first non-stabilised bicycle.

What surprises me is the so-far-unmentioned link between the "yard apes" of yesteryear and the "kid haters"/"kid lovers" of today. Where would we be if our parents had abdicated "child ownership" at the first hint of misbehaviour?

And put in more specific terms, how would we feel today if our significant others (or work supervisors, friends, family, et cetera) shunned us at our first signs of misbehaviour as adults?

This is not to comment on persons' "child rearing choices" as much as to note interesting phenomena with persons' apparent "patience quotient" with a significant sector of society.

I would beg those who don't love kids and animals to be honest and not to bore or adopt them.
I totally understand some people don't feel it. And it would be a big mistake to try to 'make' them feel good seeing child spits it's food around...
I appreciate honesty of those people saying 'sorry, but it is not my cup of tea'.
I also appreciate those people non participation into 'parents' threads and for not trying to get on 'parents-people''s nerves.

Dan, I'm 45 years old with three kids too young to drive and I gotta tell you...

the Prostate Fairy visits all men on their 40th birthday! You'll be hitting five trips a night well before 70. [smile]

CR:
to be honest and not to bore or adopt them
;-)

Unfortunately, I'm sure I do bore my kids with requests to see their homework, checking they've cleaned their teeth and all the other minor irritants of life at that age.

If, as Dave says above, our peers shunned us at the first sign of misbehaviour as an adult (which begins when, exactly?), who here would now be living the life of a hermit? I know I'd have been in my cave long before I was 22!

I meant do not give birth...but that word probably from another language, sorry.

Ah, you mean, "not to bear them".

Not at all, we can say, 'the woman bore her child to full term' perfectly legitimately, it's just the past tense. I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I wasn't trying to belittle CR at all, just trying a play on words. Apologies for any unintended offence.

No offence taken, I am always glad to learn!

Hm. I understood perfectly both, what CRilliterate meant, and that KenCunningham was joking.

On the other hand, I don't know about animals, but sometimes you don't care much about children in general until you have you own.

Stella, how true that is! My daughter was born in June last year, and before that I wasn't bothered at all with other peoples children. In fact I'd say I went out of my way to avoid being around them. I've definitely become more tolerant of children in general (although none of them are as good as mine obviously [smile]) You just can't put into words the love you feel for your own child. I know I've never experienced anything like it, and I wouldn't have understood it if someone had tried to explain it to me before.
