i service a small business with 6 machines (all running w2k).

two of these machines have the exact same problem: certain pages do not load the graphics. it is an intermittent problem. for instance, home.yahoo.com and belarc.com both do not display the graphics. if you F5 (refresh) it still will not show the graphics. HOWEVER, if you change the encoding to Western European (ISO) or Western European (Windows) it WILL display the graphics. subsequent refreshes (after you've change the encoding) will again NOT show the graphics. a quick check of the encoding reveals that it is still encoding at Wester European (ISO or Window) which ever you chose. in other words, the encoding selection has not changed, but you are now unable to view the graphics.

other pages that are viewed with the same machines load just fine. for example msn.com shows all the graphics (and there are quite a few)...

so... the problem is intermittent in the fact that not all pages load graphics. however, the problem is consistent in the fact that pages that don't load graphics NEVER load graphics (unless you change the encoding).

these are the fixes i've tried with no success (cold booting in between):
1) selecting 'auto-select' in the encoding menu.
2) clearing the temporary internet files cache.
3) reinstalling ie6 over the current installation.
4) editing the registry value (per Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 283807) to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage set as default to C_28591.NLS

the KB article (283807) seems to deal with persistent non-display of graphics (for ALL web pages), but i thought i'd give it a try anyway.

i'd rather not wipe the machine just for this, but if that's the solution....

any help would be much appreciated...

Yahoo Connection Manager might be the culprit for many, but unfortunately not for me--not using ANY of Yahoo's software, or an AV (which also seemed the problem for quite a few). Anyone else in this kind of situation and still have the problem? A test file is 60.jpg, left hand margin, of

.

Isn't the Connection manager needed software ? I only want to remove it if there's no harm in doing it . I'm so tired of this problem i've tried repairing IE and uninstalled and reinstalled the sbc/yahoo software but so far no luck.

I have tried everything including in this tread, my situation still doesnt work! not all pages can load all the images but its mostly banners and ads of advertisement. If you go to luckysurf.com or pch.com or jackpot.com if you don't see any advertisement banners on slots or lotto pages then this is the problem Im having has well. What can I do to fixed this. I have no problem with the java and macromedia. I reinstall windows the other day, those sites were working great, I dunno everysince I updated my windows and remove windows messenger these pages has stop from showing it properly. Need help.

shadow--to use Yahoo (or other DSL services I think) w/o extra software, just go to Network Connections (properties on My Network Places)->New connection wizard->connect to the internet->Set up manually->connect w/ broadband requiring user name & pwd. Yahoo needs PPPoE, be sure to choose that option. Then to connect, just create a shortcut to execute

%windir%\system32\rasphone.exe -d "DSL Connection"

where "DSL Connection" is whatever name you give the connection in Network Connection. No software of any kind required (other than built in PPPoE in XP; older versions of Windows don't have this.)

zomby--sounds like a different problem; several are definitely out there. The test file for my problem is 60.jpg at ; no other images load on any other pages after trying to download that one. I was able to load everything on luckysurf.

Dear

HI I HAVE AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM. BUT IN MY CASE I M NOT GETTING THE IMAGES AT ALL. I DONT KNOW WHY?

I wonder what might be the cause of this weird thing happening with IE. I wonder if its because of...

1. Microsoft IE updates
2. RegPatch I applied to Tweak XP
3. Removing windows messenger
4. Detonator 52.16 drivers?
5. DirectX 9.0b ?

Im running the exact same somftware within my computer and my second computer....my second computer works, all pages is display properly. But on my main computer from updating everything is what makes it not appeared properly.

Only the advertisement and ads(slots machine) doesn't appeared, just not at all, I have no X image and I have no message poping with an error, its clean but image wont show.

This is what Im getting:

Advertisement Blockers
There are various ways you can do this already, and it will probably possible to write a Mozilla plugin to do this. However, this proposal is very badly thought out as it will reduce the revenues that web sites get from advertising, which keep the majority of the web free of charge. Hence it is unlikely this will every appear in Mozilla or Communicator.
This may eventually appear indirectly however, since things such as preventing popup windows and having preferences differ on a site-by-site basis can achieve this (these are above).

How can I fixed this? I cannot find what type of plugin is install that causes this, I already empty all my cachec and stuff, still no image appears!

This is weird I install the Opera broswer to see if it works with a different browser and still it doesnt work, every website that contains advertisement banners or ads is not showing....strange cause I have absolutly no spyware or adware blockers.?

never mind folks! I just found my problem stupid! Its the first time Im using the norton antispam I though it was just to control the spams on my email box but its not, theres an adblocking feature that exist, all this time it was my software....grrrrr but now my only problem is when I load my windows the cpu usage stays at 100% and it my system is running poorly, the only way to stop it is by opening the task manager and cpu drops to 0% and system works great again.....but if I reboot the system does the same thing again....something is making the cpu load at 100% for nothing, any suggestion?

i just installed latest ms ie6 patch and now i cansee the mysql page!

Same here; looks like the noble souls at MS have fixed one of the causes of this type of problem.

the saga continues. I tried the IE 6 updates and it didn't help. One new twist is that when I launch the program Adaptec Easy CD creator 4, I get several boxes with X's...and this program is independent of IE 6, isn't it? I can sort of feel my way through the first 2 dialog boxes for this program and then it works as usual. does this tell anyone anything about what the problem may be? in the meantime i have switched to using netscape, but i would like to fix this problem.

I vote for the November, 2003 Cumulative Security Hotfix for IE. It resolved the .gif .jpg and other issues with difficulties displaying images on certain pages.

that is what i did: the November 2003, Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (824145)and it didn't help.

Everyone, there is actually a very easy way to fix the problem described as images not being displayed / loaded within IE6 and being replaced with red crosses. This problem does not affect all web sites and it can be temporarily fixed on a site by site basis by selecting a different encoding or by de-selecting and then selecting 'Auto-Select'.

However if like most people you want a permanent fix ensure the following registry keys all exist.(I have only tested this in Windows 2000)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

I believe I have found the solution to the encoding problem
of the red X's.

Go to System Info under system maintenance and open system
file checker under tools. Use the extract option to replace
"mlang.dll" from cabs or Win98 installation disk.

So far, this has solved the problem.

What worked for me in correcting the display problem was the following:

Check that you have "MICROSOFT VM" listed in the ADVANCED section of INTERNET PROPERTIES.

On one of my machines that both have IE6, Win XP and all updates this was not present.

I found the download at:

Also on this page was a very interesting explanation as to why there is no help from Microsoft with this matter. (Well worth as read).

After installing the VM, my browser is working perfectly. I have however niticed that the two dll files are not on either of my machines.

It would be nice to know if the above works for anybody else as I think that these missing dll files may not matter.
