I use WinXP. I have two accounts established: Admin and a limited use account. I rarely use the Admin account (primarily to load certain new applications). My issue only pertains to an issue experienced while logged into the Admin account. I DO NOT experience this issue when logged into the limited use account.
My problem: When logged into the Admin account I CANNOT access a site by typing the URL into the address bar.
IE launches to my home page. I can click on links from the home page and go to those sites. However, when I type a URL into the address bar and click 'go' (or press the enter key) NOTHING happens. I get no system response what-so-ever. I don't even get a blank screen with an error message. Most (but not all) "favorites" shortcuts do not work. Windows Update (the shortcut on the Start menu) will not work. In the case of Windows Update (shortcut from the Start menu), IE will launch to a blank screen. Again, no error message. Just a blank screen.
I DO NOT have this problem when I'm logged into my limited use account. I can launch Windows Update from the Start menu by right clicking and selecting "run as another user" and selecting my Admin account. I can type a URL into the address bar and go to whichever site I've entered.
I update and run Ad-Aware weekly. I have update and run Spybot weekly (yep... I'm a 'belt and suspenders kind of guy...). I run a complete Avast anti-virus software weekly (Avast auto-updates quite often). While Ad-Aware and/or Spybot always identify cookies and such, most items identified look like the results of normal surfing activities. I've never (knock on wood) had a virus identified by Avast.
I'm stumped. I will appreciate anyone's thoughts or suggestions.
