IE 8 stops responding

Hi, I mainly use the Barcode forum. For the past few months, have had an issue with Vista and IE8. I upgraded my xp machine, with 768megs of ram, to vista home basic and IE8 hangs(after viewing, for example, the Weather Service site with java displays, and then clicking to my facebook page or yahoo groups with lots of jpeg's.) Also, my cable modem needs to be reset multiple time per session. I got a new cable modem, upgraded my router,(no new upgrade) and my ethernet card to the latest versions for Vista. The video card is an integrated card and I was wondering if it just isn't strong enough to handle Vista graphic calls: could that be the problem?.
I ran the malware, avirus programs listed in a couple of the posts, and it seems to be clean. If someone is willing, I can post a Hijack log when I get home.

I think IE8 is pretty heavy on resources, for a web browser. Also, Vista is as well. You could try turning off as many features on your system as possible (msconfig for instance), and then run IE8 to see.

Also, you'd want to make sure Java is up to date on your machine - just go to

http://www.java.com

to verify.

And otherwise, I really doubt this is a Virus issue, though I suppose it's possible. I don't think you're even asking from a security standpoint.

I'd personally look at increasing your RAM, if possible; it will probably make the biggest difference.

Yes, i have considered that. The fact that i have a integrated video card is the one thing that holds me back from adding any upgrades to a 5 yr old computer,(I score 1 on vista rating.) I have a notion to crash the hard drive so my wife will let(ha,ha) me get a new computer.

It seems like I remember reading that one of the requirements for Vista was one gig of RAM.

yes, think 1 meg is correct but i have no trouble with any programs. Even running several at once, and they still function correctly when ie8 stops responding. I thought it might be a virus when it first occured. That's why I thought I should post my problem here, in case anyone else had the same situation.

No, 1GB is NOT a requirement for Windows Vista:

512MB is a requirement - it is possible to turn off enough "stuff" to get by with 512 or 768MB if you cannot afford to upgrade.

However, if at all possible, it is recommended to have at least 1GB - not required. Also, from my own personal experience, this is what I say:

1. Install at least 2GB of Ram for Windows Vista - memory is cheap enough that if you can afford a PC, then you ought to be able to afford one with 2GB of Ram, minimum (currently).

2. If your PC can't hold at least 2GB of Ram, then it's time to upgrade - or else stick with XP. XP uses MUCH less of the system resources than Vista by default. If you still have XP, and the resource usage is something you can't overcome with Vista, then go back to XP.

Correction on my correction. [dizzy]

That link shows the recommended system requirements, not just required specs for Vista, and breaks it down per version of Vista.

At the bottom of all of that, you'll find the minimum supported = 512MB.

Still, it's highly preferable/recommended to go with at least 1GB, or really 2GB of RAM on Vista..

For a 5 year old PC, it may be a stretch to get 2GB in the system.
