I'm trying to understand how to configure the 2nd Layer 2 Switch Port. The documentation refers to the 2nd port being used to connect to a 2nd LAN. I'm a bit confused as you can only assign the same IP address to both ports.

Is there any way to configure the 2nd port for redundancy/concurancy?

Yes, the 2nd port can be used to set up a redundant link to the LAN, using STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) to manage which port has the active link.

you can't assing different IP's to the network interfaces.
lundah correctly said if you connect this port to the network you need to configure STP on the network
