I was looking at the avaya.com/learning website and came across BTC188W2. "Definity System Admin for call centers" They offer it online.

1. Has anyone taken this class? I am interested in your feelings as to how good it is.

2. Would you recommend taking it in a classroom environment?

I am certified in Magix and am wanting to take the next step. All I know on a Definity is how to get a station list. Any help would be appreciated.

Actually a good start is just the definity books. The series called: Little Instruction Book...

Avaya MultiVantage Little Instruction Book for Basic
Administration
Avaya MultiVantage Little Instruction Book for
Advanced Administration
Avaya MultiVantage Little Instruction Book for Basic
Diagnostics

They are made in immitation of style "... for dummies" books.

And you can download them free from Avaya.com

I did my training for Definity from an Avaya training
CD. I'm not sure how my company got it, but probably Avaya, it was very good...and I used the Little instruction books for advanced administration to learn vectoring...

The cd roms produced by Avaya are excellent, but they were very expensive last time I checked. The advantage of the cd roms is that u can jump all over the cd rom and just train yourself on the parts that u want to work on. At one time the cd roms came with the courses taught by Avaya.
The best way to get the initial training is get it first hand from a system adminstrator. There has been hundreds of system admistrators laid off in the last years, and many Avaya employees have been laid off or retired too that might be available for training.

Where are you located?

Mongo5150 (5150 as in Van Halen 5150?)
As mentioned earlier, The Little Instruction Books and CDs are good. This forum is a great place to learn. Most of what I know is from experience (lots of experimentation) and checking with my friends in the business. I have certifications from Nortel, Mitel, Panasonic, and Avaya. Still 95% of of what I know did not come from the books. And the there is a bunch of stuff that might be simple to someone else that I have no clue about as I may not have been exposed too it.

I wonder if Avaya training is available online (free) to a Definity customer whose switch is covered under Maintenance?

Yes, (5150 as in VH)

I am Located in the Chicago area. I look at this forum and am confronted with terms that I have no knowlege of. Like vectoring. Soo many things to ask, no knowledge of what to be asking.

That is why I think it would be easier to start with a basic class and get the bulk of knowledge from you all.
The admin for definity in a call center class was the closest thing to pre-novice I saw on Avaya learning web site. Thanks for the responses.

Hee, Heee, Haa-ha!!!! Richard you always have the ability to make me laugh.

Toni,
Just tryin to spread the joy.
Matt,
I work at Peavey Electronics. We make the guitars (Wolfgang) and amps (5150) built for Eddie (Van Halen).

Realizing you don't know the technical language, that's ok, feel free to go ahead tell us what you're trying to accomplish and I'm sure we'll all pitch in and do our best.

Richard

Too bad your so far away, if you had been in the NW, I would have been willing to do some one on one with you cheap.

FoneFun, I tried to find the books you mentioned, but I was unable to. Could you please provide a link.

goto support.avaya.com
it is under communication system> comm mgr> gen info

just got mine a few days ago

Here are the links:

If you can't use the link, go to avaya.com, select Support, Product document and search for 555-233-756, 555-233-757, 555-233-758

These may not be the correct version for you, so you can try to dig around for your specific version. I'm on Multivantage 11.

I think Sumaria Networks offers training in the Chicago Area..Not to sure though but check out there site..

Archie

I think archie is correct on sumaria being in chicago.
I did my training in chicago under the shadow of the sears tower. It was done by att or lucent or avaya back then and that has all been outsourced. I think Sumaria picked up the chicago area.

Walt Medak and Associates offers Basic, Advanced, and Call Center Training in Portland Oregon. I took the class there and they are top notch. Probably better than Avaya themselves.
A) Because they aren't trying to promote Avaya products while they are teaching
B) Because there are about 15 people total in the week-long class for individual attention.

They are great people too and everyone gets their own switch to work on that matches the release you have.
