I have a problem with the wireless connection between my laptop (Win 2000) and my router (D-Link DI-514). This is what happens, when I start using my wireless card I get assigned an IP from the router (gateway and DNS and that stuff too). The IP is correct. The router registers the MAC-address, so it obviously sees the laptop. The thing is I can’t ping the laptop from the router and the router can’t be pinged from the laptop. So I can’t connect to the internet. I don’t know what’s wrong…
(The Laptop has been used in a wireless network before, so I know it been working before…)

Things I’ve already done:

Changing the SSID
Trying different channels
Testing with the different security modes (WEP, no WEP, filters, no filters, and so on)

90% certaom this is a firewall issue.

. remove any obvious firewall; test.
. check for "hidden" firewalls with antivirus packages. PC-Illan is famous for this.

I deleted my firewall and anitivirus-program, but it still doesn't work...

make sure you don't have a bridged connection setup this can cause problems sometimes.
but what kind of a connection is it broadband cable if so is this wireless router new to your environment and if so are there other cpu's connected to this router by wire or wireless if so are they experiencing the same problem? if so or if this is a new router in place you may need to bounce the modem.
what i mean is unplug all.
1. restart the modem WAIT till you get a connection on the modem.
2.then plug in the wireless router
3. connect wireless card.
4. then try and connect.

The modem is setup in the correct way, because I do not have any problems with my wired connections. It's the connection to the router which is screwed up. It must be something else...?

Have you disabled any wired networks you may have present on the laptop?

Yes, I do that everytime I test the wireless network.

I had the same problem just 2 days ago.

The laptop's wireless card got the IP address from the wireless router but the laptop could not ping the router's IP address. No Internet connection because of the problem.

But when I switched to wired connection I got the IP address and I used the Internet and everything worked fine.
So it seems to me that this is not a firewall or some configuration problem. It is really frustrating.

Some one help please.

Looks like your having a TCP/IP issue. This problems happens frequently with wireless setups where you see the the access point and you can send packets however you don't receive any packets. You have to be sure that the settings on your wireless card match with the router's settings which i mean the; encryption key, WEP or WPA, infrastructure or ad-hoc, SSID, etc. Also check and see what IP address your computer is receiving because if your not on the same network then obviously the router doesn't know that you even exist on the network.

Did you ever sort this out? Ive got exactly the same problem! thanks!

Sorry, I just got so fed up with all the problems that I just started using a wired connection instead of the wireless one. Lately I have been thinking of give it an other go, and I'll let you know if I ever fix it.

Good luck!
