Huntbar Variant 2 that won't go away

My browser keeps getting hijacked and pop-ups are all suddenly continuous.

After running Ad-aware, spy assassin, and spy guard a zillion times and following all deletes (even in safe mode) the blasted pop-ups andkeep returning in a hide-and-go-seek way.

It seems to be Huntbar Variant 2.

I've deleted temp files, reinstalled IE, rebooted and keep running the above programs, but the web page hijackers come back after the reboot, then the pop-ups follow... they almost seem to be on a timer.

If you have Win XP turn off System Restore, Check msconfig and see what is being run on startup.

Unix IS user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are.

Did you try CWShredder or Hijackthis?. CWShredder should fix most of such issues.

two of the best spyware/malware removal tools are:

Spybot Search & Destroy
AdAware

I use both. Between the 2 of them, they catch everything I've ever seen.

Somewhere between using just about every spyware, except Spybot Search & Destroy, using the tips everyone suggested , and restoring the system to last week before this started, I think I've been clean for a day or so.

Since this garbage would pop up randomly at the end, the jury is still out that it is completely gone. What a pain!
