Sorry guys,
I've been reprimanded, and quite rightly so, by one of you for not replying after receiving help. I want to apologise to all of you for not playing to the unwritten rules of Tek-tips. Without such rules such an undertaking cannot function properly.

By the way, what is this 'craw'? Please explain to this ignorant English person who takes the name of a famous London railway station.

Hi Euston,

Sorry, but after reading your post thread608-428267 post. I have come to the conclusion that you were talking a load of rubbish!

The simple point that was made to you, was to just mark a post as helpful if it had helped you come to the conclusion or find the solution you required. There was nothing more to it. After reading your above post and checking your details it appears that you have not recieved any helpful posts to your 15 threads that you have started. I'm not trying to cause an argument, but even after you were "reprimanded" and you have apologised, you still haven't had the decenecy to mark any of the replies that you've had as helpful.

OK craigey, I've done what you suggested. I failed to appreciate the behaviour norms expected of members and hope that I have, albeit belatedly, made amends.

Hi euston,
Sounds like you in a heap o'trouble. Acknowledging that this has nothing to do with computers, to answer your last question for an explanation of the term "craw" go to:

In case you were really talking about "eating crow", please follow this url:

Always glad to teach a Brit something about the "Colonies".[shadeshappy]

Well done you, Euston.

At least you've actually realised the way tek tips works, now if only we could get the other 80% to realise this!

Thanks Joe.

I chased up the URLs you gave me and realise that I am most definitely eating CROW. Thanks for the information.

I should have had an idea that these pitfalls lay before me when I joined Tek-tips. Any Internet forum seems to be an equivalent to walking on glass for people like me. Tek-tips seems to be no exception and, perhaps, something to avoid if a person is endowed with my particular difficulties. I have been judged and found guilty with no effective means of mitigating the circumstances behind my problem because of the considerable shortcomings of Internet communication.

Until late last week, I had received no warning that there was a problem. People with autism need to have ground rules set out in advance otherwise they will invariably upset someone, as I appear to have done. I'm not asking for sympathy, just understanding. If I am black-balled from Tek-tips, so be it. Perhaps Tek-tips should introduce a page of such ground rules for new members so that such misunderstandings can be pre-empted and people with my shortcomings may better avoid the situation in which I now find myself. Such things are apparently so obvious to 'normal' people that they don't consider that such a thing is necessary. I am used to this sort of thing. It happens to me quite often and while I am capable of learning from experience will always fall into some pit or other from time to time.

Postscript
There seems to be a Tek-tips grapevine. Do you chaps talk amongst yourselves? I have suddenly had a lot of additional replies to my threads, almost a rush in fact.

Thanks.

communication with other members is of course strictly forbidden!

Just a Monday "thing". Things seem to slow down on weekends!

I'm starting to get the hang of things.
