HP DV9310US - just slow by nature???

I've got a customer with one of these laptops. There is no malware on the machine. I upped the RAM from 1.5 to 2GB (maximum). I did all the following tweaks to speed up Vista except for the ReadyBoost

and also reduced startup items as much as I can with Autoruns. Yet, it's still relatively slow with a lot of disk activity that never dies down completely.

Is this just a lousy laptop with maybe a slow hard drive that is causing the slowness???

It's like I keep thinking "this should be running better" than it is while other PCs run BETTER than their specs. I saw another HP DV series laptop (dv6400) and I fought the same battles with it with little improvement. I'm ready to call HP out on these slow-mo machines.

From the reviews I have read, it is not a fast laptop, but with the additional memory it should boost it a bit. I did not check to see what speed hard drive it has, that may be a factor along with Vista.

It's a 5400 rpm drive, but it just seems like it should run better. Not super fast, but reasonable.
