I've got a customer with one of these laptops. There is no malware on the machine. I upped the RAM from 1.5 to 2GB (maximum). I did all the following tweaks to speed up Vista except for the ReadyBoost
and also reduced startup items as much as I can with Autoruns. Yet, it's still relatively slow with a lot of disk activity that never dies down completely.
Is this just a lousy laptop with maybe a slow hard drive that is causing the slowness???
It's like I keep thinking "this should be running better" than it is while other PCs run BETTER than their specs. I saw another HP DV series laptop (dv6400) and I fought the same battles with it with little improvement. I'm ready to call HP out on these slow-mo machines.
