Hey gang.... I am looking to do something a little unique and am certain that I can figure out a way to make it work. However, with the vast wealth of experience assembled within this forum, I thought I would open up a string to explore my options. Here is the scenario:

- I have just taken over the servicing of the IPO for a small School District. It consists of a 2-site SCN at release 8.1 Preferred Edition.

- They would like to add 4 phones (2 in each location) to be shared by 6 Instructor Trainers (ITs).

- Each of the 2 buildings has a room set aside as a "base station" for the ITs and the ITs float between these "base stations".

- Each "base station" will have 2 phones (9608) which should operate in an identical fashion.

- Each IT should have their own extension number which, when called, should ring all 4 phones with a visual indication as to who's extension is being called (I thought a separate appearance button for each).

- The called party should be able to be answer at any of the 4 phones

AAAAAANNNNDDDD..... GO!

Thanks to technology, we can instantly communicate across the world, but it still doesn't help us know what to say.

Simple, install four phones with a dummy user logged on.
Create six collective groups with those four extensions as members.
Each group represent a "user" with a unique name and number.
If someone for example calls Joe ( one of the six groups) then all four extensions will ring with the followin in the display : "Callers number/name>Joe".

Thank you Intrigrant. That is the easy way to do it, but correct me if I am wrong; won't that take away the caller ID (with caller ID being replaced with the Group Name?

I don't have a system in front of me, but I believe users can still see the caller ID on a group call if the name is short enough or they press the details button.

Are they truly floating throughout the day or are they typically sitting at a different desk each day? It might be an opportunity to introduce hot desking? Just a thought...

You'll still see the caller's callerID and you'll see the name of the hunt group. It will show the number calling in, then after that, the name of the group. On your appearance key, you'll see the name of the caller. So:

9310xxxxxxx>"Name of Group"
Joe Schmoe

Thank you all. Hot Desking is not an option, as we are talking about 2 rooms/2 phones in each room/up to 6 users in a room at any given time.... could be as few as 1, but up to 6. They float throughout the day (back and forth). If they could just glance at the phone, when it rings, and know if it is for them.

I am hoping to use BLF buttons with coverage appearances. This way they can even tell from across the room and won't actually have to go up and read Caller ID (unless it is their button flashing. Any thought on this? Bear in mind that the 2 rooms are on separate systems within an SCN.

Again, thank you.

Add a Group button for all 6 groups to each telephone set. The button will blink when the group is ringing, as well as the text on the screen to indicate who the call is for. Only problem is the number of buttons available per screen on the 9508, so you may have to put just 2 call appearances and the 6 group buttons on the 1st page, and all the other call appearance and park buttons on the 2nd and 3rd screens

Thanks TTT... This is exactly what I was thinking about this afternoon and probably what I will do. Are there any issues at Rel 8.1 having HG members being users in 2 different systems on the SCN? I am not aware of any, but maybe you are.
