how to move into security/virus elimination

I have a colleague who wishes to study the area of security - specifically viruses. She has been assigned a project which will involve managing virus blocking on an email system.

She will be exposed to Minesweeper software (antivirus, not the game!)

Does anyone know of courses/certifications etc which may help?

I don't know about courses etc., but there are many websites that can give you lots of info. Check out

With regard to mimesweeper (not minesweeper, although that's more fun!), the website at

is very good. I use the discussion forum (

a lot and there are a lot of knowledgeable people there. Maybe I'll meet your colleague in the forum!
