How to get wav file to val board

how would i do this? i am running CM4.0. i have a client that wants to send me thier announcment in the form of a wav file, how would i then get it to the val board & use it in the pbx?

Unless you have access to the client's LAN you can't. The files need to be FTP'd onto the VAL board.

You can FTP or use VAL Manager, VAL Manager will allow you to copy the announcement straight from your PC to the VAL Board. You just need to ensure that you have created an extension for the announcemt, that the .wav file is in the correct format (8KHz 8bit Mono and mu law for US or A law for UK) if it isn't you can use goldwave ore something like that to convert it to the right format, make sure the .wav file is renamed to be exactly the same as the announcement name i.e announcement 12345 ClientA would have the announcement file ClientA.wav Once that's done just upload to the board that the announcement extension is allocated against.

i can't seem to use my VAL manager, never used it, i connect to the pbx, but after that i'm clueless, i do have access to the LAN, how would i FTP it? i have winscp can i use that? i also downloaded the file to the /var/home/ftp/pub, can i copy it to somewhere from there?

1)In the Avaya CM, type "enable filex"
This will bring up a screen where you can enter a Login and Password - these will be used when you connect to the board via FTP. Select "N" at 'Secure' to disable sftp. Enter the board location in the space provided.
2) From a PC with the files you wish to transfer open a DOS window and “cd” to the directory where the VAL's wav files are kept.

Type FTP followed by the ip-address of the VAL board.

It will prompt you for the login name and password. This is the Login/Password you created in step 1 above.

****IMPORTANT After you get logged in, type "bin" to set binary mode. If you don't do this, the file won't work properly.****

The command you'll then use is put :
"put <file_name_on_pc> <file_to_name_on_val>" this is to put a file from pc to val.

EXAMPLE:

F:\>cd ftp_temp
F:\ftp_temp>ftp 192.168.1.100
Connected to 192.168.1.100.
220 FTP server ready
User (192.168.1.100none)): user

ftp> bin
200 Type set to I, binary mode
ftp> put client_announcement.wav

It should then reply something like:
200 Port set okay
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection
226 Transfer complete
ftp: 30058 bytes sent in 0.00Seconds 30058000.00Kbytes/sec.

Then type "quit" to exit the FTP session.
Wait a few minutes & dial the announcement extension number to ensure it's playing. Then back in Avaya, type "disable filex board <VAL board location>" to disable FTP.

thanks all, i was finally able to get it done via val manager.

once i am done, should i disbale filex in the PBX?

VAL manager will disable when it's finished.

If you do a list History you will se it done there.
