Can I send more than Caller ID phone number to 911 on our Avaya IP Office 500?
I received a notice from the California Public Utilities Commission.
It says: When you call 911, your phone system may send only your main phone number for your company. That number is probably connected to your company's main address.
If your company has different locations, it's better if each location, when/if someone dials 911, if each location would send their own phone number.
This pamphlet makes it seem like my phone system is (or could be) also sending my company address.
Question: When I dial 911, my Avaya IP 500 is just sending my phone number thru Caller ID, correct? The 911 system would have their own database, to look up the physical address? Is that how it works?
My non-profit does have 2 locations, next to each other, but we have no specific phone number attached to address 2, so I don't even know how that would work.
2. It also seems to imply that I could set up my phone system to send the specific Room Number or Floor Number, when a person calls 911.
Could I set up my IP 500 to send address 2, when someone in Bldg 2 calls 911?
The reason is that if a person called 911 (let's assume, after hours) that the Police or Fire Department would know that "John in IT, Bld 2" called 911 or "Sue in Accounting, Main Bld, Floor 2, Rm 201" called 911, and that this info could save time, in case of an emergency.
Question: Can my IP Office 500 be set up to send additional info to the 911 Dispatch Center? Can it send an address or Floor number? Anything in addition to my Caller ID phone number?
Here's the brochure, in PDF format:
Possibly using "Private Switch Automatic Location Identification (PS/ALI)"
Thank you,
Bill
