I am using a T1 to Tie Nortel option 11c and Avaya IP500, I am have some amount of delay time in connecting calls from either system, is it possible to reduce this to almost instant.

What's the short code you are using to dial across the T1 to the Nortel?

I am using "short code 2N" as the extension on the Nortel is the 2000 series and the Avaya is the 3000 series.

2N uses the dial delay timer before completing the call (4 seconds by default I think). Use 2XXX instead. This way as soon as the 4 digits are dialed the call will go through without waiting for the dial delay timer.

That worked well thanks, can you make any recommendations for the delay I am experiencing coming from the Nortel to the Avaya. As all our trunks line are located on the Avaya so staff dial a great to the Avaya to fetch a line to go out.

I haven't touched an Option 11 since 2001 so I don't remember much other than load 96 is for D channels and 60 is for T1's.

It is probably the same the principle. You want to see if you can get rid of any dial delay that may be on the Nortel end.

You can check the short codes that match the incoming call route on the IP Office from the Nortel. If you have a 1N for long distance calls and replaced it with a 1XXXXXXXXXX that might help with an immediate match. Same if have 10 digit local dialing with say 312 area code 312XXXXXXX.

If based on whatever you're dialing you have to use N you can try this. Dialing # at the end of a number on the IP Office indicates that you are done dialing and it won't wait for the dial delay timer. Never tried sending a # from another switch but that might work too.

Or add a hash at the end of dialling.
Speeding up calling from Nortel to Avaya can be achieved by using the shortcode field in the ip trunk.
For Avaya extensions create a shortcode like:
SC = 1xxxx
TN = . (dot)
Action = DialExtension
LineID = 0

For long distance
SC = 1xxxxxxxxxxxxx
TN = .
Line ID = the linegroup in IPO used for outbound

Hey, stop confusing the poor Americans. For us hash is some fried potato concoction or something illegal you put in brownies.

Yes, for some unknown reason you lot call it "Pound sign" even though £ is a pound sign, you do like to change things like that :)

Tom that is a priceless story.

I put in an IP Office for a guy who had a Partner system for years. He was horrified when he realized he just got a new phone system and still had to listen to the Partner Messaging lady. So I switched his User locale to the UK. He was fine once I explained why the date on the phone was "backwards" but my phone rang later that day with him asking "What the hell is a hash?"

My ex mother in law is British so most of the idioms are normal to me. Never could get over calling cookies biscuits though.

Hey intrigrant

I placed the short code for the local ext.

SC = 3xxx (The Avaya is using the 3000 series ext.)
TN = . (dot)
Action = DialExtension
LineID = 0

It returns an error.
"This conflicts with 3XXX - dial extn.The local extension will overide short code

Then you don't need it, the last time i used it was with software release 2.1.

Well Tom, that is much better. Just the notion of a chocolate chip biscuit was giving me nightmares.
