Explain how these commands corrupt data in normal moves of non acd sets. I have used these commands for 10 yrs without any problem. We have a Nortel Opt 61 and opt 81 switch.

I have never had any issues with those commands for regular sets. And I've used them thousands of times on our 61 and 11's.

do you have corruption or are you asking if you could get it? Can you tell us what system you have?

We have no corruption that we know of. A contractor has raised this issue that using these commands in normal moves does cause corruption. Again our switch is a nortel opt 61 and opt 81. Any cases that were verified that would support this claim would be appreciated.

Never in 20 years have I had corruption from moving/copying sets... I have never hesitated to do these, but have always outed before moving and ACD sets, also I have made changes to ACD just not moved or copied....

As is often the case, it MIGHT happen in a UNIQUE case and scenario, a LOT of people use the MOVE and CPY commands with no issues, but there were cases where it did cause problems in the past, and the best explanation was that MOVE commands within their own SUPERLOOP / LOOP should be OK, but MOVEing a set from 1 superloop to another might cause problems......
(but not confirmed by NORTEL)

I have not experienced it on LARGE systems but I have run into it on OPT11c running 23.xx software, What happened in my case is when I moved a TN to another location that part worked fine, but whe ORIGINAL TN the phone was moved from a "UNMODIFIABLE" M2317 appeared with nothing for the keys or settings, you could not out it and it caused AUD error on the PBX. Quick fix was to reboot the PBX and it outed the set on boot up....

NORTEL = NEVER SAY NEVER I guess.....

Can anyone confirm that Nortel came up with a DB corruption with MOV when the phone is in use.

I have always operated under the assumption that mov or cpy is OK for non-ACD sets, and that ACD sets must always be outed and rebuilt.

Also, IMHO, I would think that since moving ACD sets can cause problems, Nortel should make the command not work for an ACD set.

rolet69... I have always disabled the set before I moved it, I think it's good practice

Thanks so much for the assistance. I agree with all of you that data corruption is unlikely in the normal use of the Copy/Move commands.

I have been using both commands for over 29 years and I have never had any Corruption. you can get corruption at any time using any command if the Switch your working on has had a lazy tech maimtaining it for years and not fixing any Alarms or Error codes when they happen. It's just like your Car or house, if you don't take care of it then the day will come that you will wish you hadn't been so lazy and fixed it when you saw a problem. Remember it's a computer and what is microsoft famous for?
Garbage in, you get garbage out.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

The only problem that I have run into is that if you don't disable the set before you move it and the set happens to ring while it's being moved from one tn to the other then you can end up with a hung call register.
You'll start seeing AUD021 and AUD028 alarms, and BUG195's

If you ever have this happen you'll know it because they will be practially scrolling on your tty

There is a patch for this though so if it never happens to you then you've probably got the patch installed.
