How do I stop the Workspace/Timeline from maximizing to the right edge 1

This problem has annoyed me alot.

When I first installed Flash (5) - the layout was nice and clean, with the toolbar opened at the left, and the 4 standard panels (Info, Character, Mixer and Instance) opened at the right of the screen.

The Workspace with the Stage, and also the Timeline, was in the middle - and their right edges were stopping before the panels started, therefore all windows were showing.

Suddenly, one day, when someone else had used my PC, I opened up a .fla - and then the Workspace / Timeline had been "maximized" all the way out to the right of the whole screen, so that the panels were on top of it all, hiding the part of the Workspace / Timeline that was beneath it.

And then it stayed that way, every time I tried to open another .fla, it showed up in the same layout.

I tried to find a checkbox or something to turn that stupid maximizing thing off, but I didn't find it. So I removed Flash and re-installed it - then I got the usual layout again, with the Workspace's / Timeline's right edges stopping just before the panels. And prayed that the other person that's using the PC wouldn't mess it up again...

..but sadly enough, she *did* mess it up again. :(

Please!! Does anyone know how to re-set the original layout, without having to re-install the whole application?

Please help me...!

Clokkevi.

PS. Just FYI: I did try "Window" / "Panel Sets" / "Default Layout" - it doesn't help.

Try setting up the layout you want... Resizing the main window, the panels you want and where you want them... etc. Then chose Save Layout. Give a name, & save. Next time you open it up, that should be the layout!

Thanks for your quick reply, Oldnewbie!

But sadly - it didn't work for me. :-(

I started Flash.

I resized the main window (Workspace/Stage/Timeline) - dragging the right edges to the left. Stopping when they were meeting the left edges of the panels. Now - there were nothing of the main window hidden under the panels.

I chose "Window" / "Save panel layout..."

In the "Save Panel Layout" window, I entered a name for the layout; I simply called it "Clokkevi".

I closed Flash, then re-started it.

The panels were ok, but the main window had been maximized again, all the way out to the right edge of Flash.

I tried "Window" / "Panel Sets" / "Clokkevi" - main window still maximized.

Please, do you have another tip for me, Oldnewbie?
I really hope you or anyone else can help me out on this...

Clokkevi.

Well... The saving panels' layout option only saves the panel layout. Got nothing to do with the main window! Usually, that's the way it works for me, when you close Flash with the top right X box, it saves the present position and size of the main window.
Can be of no more help than to suggest you retry it once more... or re-install!

I have already re-installed it.

Strange that this problem is so hard to solve...?

Thanks for your effort, anyway! :)

HEY !! I found the solution!! :)

It happened again, today, while I was using the app myself, the maximizing to the right edge thing..!

I was shocked to see that it just started to have this layout when I appearantly hadn't done anything wrong!

I cross-checked all files changed the last 30 minutes, scanned the Current User/Software/Macromedia/Flash registry for some useful info - but didn't find anything.

Then I wanted to just check something out before re-installing it, and realizing I had restored the app window, it was just a bit smaller than when maximized, I clicked the maximize window button, dragged the Timeline/Workspace right edges to meet the panels left edges - looked at some numbers in the Info panel - closed Flash.

Started Flash, and saw that the Timeline/Workspace windows HAD NOT BEEN MAXIMIZED! They had kept the size they had when I closed Flash!

I then checked my suspicions, and they were right, so I concluded with this rule:

"The size of the main window (Timeline/Workspace) will be remembered when you close Flash when Flash is maximized.
If you close Flash when it's NOT maximized, the size of the main window will NOT be remembered."

:)
