Hi,
I've recently moved back to Australia after living in London and am now wondering what is my next step in my IT career ?? Since studying finance at university ive worked in investment markets for 7 years. The last 2 of this I was an analyst programmer doing Access/SQL Server and VB. The problem I face now I'm back here is that the only jobs im being considered for are those ones with the technologies I already know. How do I get comercial experience in new ones ? No one seems to be offering that as part of the deal. I feel the more time goes the more behind I getwith new langauges eg .net. Is this only a product of our current job market and if so do I just need to sit it out till things get better again, meanwhile learning new technologies in my own time, or do I have a true case to worry ???
If the former is correct what things would I be best to learn considering I work in finance and already know ASP/HTML/VB/Access/SQL Server?? And should I be looking at doing a degree in IT ??
