I am trying to modify an access database created by my predecessor. i have a sql database that is linked to the access db and I successfully imported three linked tables. however, i can not remove the old links which are still linked to an existing database that will become obsolete.

I get the following error message:

You don't have permission to delete...
To delete this object, you must have Modify Design permission or Delete Data permission.

I tried to update the permissions on the tables, but i get a similar error message.

I had my security settings updated changed so that I had full control over the database, but nothing seems to work.

what can i do?

1) do i need to have the actual gui open and log in? will this make a difference? if I go this route, how can i also access the backend?

2) how do i successfully change the permissions for linked tables so that I can also unlink them?

3) there is no .mdw file as this database has been copied several times.

please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Try creating a new DB and importing everything into it from the "problem" DB.

the database has forms and reports. is exporting it to a new db the best solution.

If permissions will allow, you can import everything into another DB - including forms and reports. Open a new DB then right-click within the DB window (white area). Choose "Import". You will be presented with a window to choose the DB you want to import. Browse to and select your DB in question. Next you should get a window for you to select what you want to import. Go to each tab (tables, forms, reports, etc.) and choose 'select all'. Then to be sure, click "options" button and under 'Import', check 'Menus and Toolbars' and 'Import/Export Specs'. This last step is because I suspect you do not know if Specs are used or if there are custom menus - you may as well get it all.

If you are successful with the import, you will likely have some tweaking to do since you are switching from SQL database to internal tables - to start with, removing the old links to SQL, which was your original issue. With a little luck you could have a DB with you as the owner and be able to proceed from there.

If you cannot import all the objects because of permissions, you may have to seek help on how to gain access to a protected DB. Sorry, I cannot help you with that.
