I need to setup an extension so when its taken of hook it will be connected to an external trunk and allow you to dial out as if you had pressed digit 9
do you have a PRI? If so, what is your software level (Do you have 2nd dial tone enabled?). What happens when you pick up a "regular" set, and dial 9? Do you get a second dial tone, or silence as well? (oops, I just noticed this is the BCM forum, not Norstar). In that case, assuming you have a PRI, do you have any POTS lines in a pool? If you do, you could simply make the Prime line for that set that line pool. If you have a PRI, there is no getting around it
What happens if you put the 9 back in like you had it. Then after going off hook dial the rest of the number. Because even with no number in there if you just went off hook with the phone and dialed only the 9 it will time out on you after a few seconds.
True, if you want to have a courtesy phone, why don't you just have a sign that says to dial 9 for an outside line, and build a restriction filter as needed to prevent them from dialing LD?
Why does the fax machine need to hear dial tone. When they enter the speed dial, doesn't the fax go off hook, the hotline takes effect with the 9, and the fax dials the rest of the number?
I think you're out of luck if all you have is PRI. If you've got analog trunks, do like ace said and make that port prime to a line pool.
The speed dials are built into the fax machine, if I understand correctly.
Ran into a similar thing once - the client didn't want to change the speed dials on their fax, so I found the manual and changed them for them. Problem solved in about 15 minutes.
