i recelntly purchased a hitachi 400 gig serial ata 2 hard drive. this is my hardware:

3800+ dual core amd
asus a8n32 sli deluxe mb
2 gig ocz pc3200 memory
creative fatality sound card with i/o port
ati 1950xt video card
thermaltake 500w atx 12v 2.0 power supply

my problem is that almost every time i go to install something off the dvd roms it comes up saying corrupted cab file, cannot right to source. it does this form the dvd roms and it does it from the hard drvie itself if i try to extract a rar file. it also shuts down from time to time with no appearent reason. i have some games i can copy over from an external hd i have that work fine. but if it has to by extracted messes up. and it is almost always a cab file corruption. does anyone know the problem i am having. i have reinstalled windows several times, updated the nforce driversto there newest and the bios as well. with the same results. i at first thought it was the mobo and called asus and the sent me a new one in a box and stil the same results. i would appreciate any help you guys can offer.

I could be wrong, but there may be a possibility that it is your RAM that is causing this. If you have two sticks remove one & try again. If this doesn't work try the other on it's own.

thank you that worked for some reason. but now i have 1 gig in limbo, is there some compatability issue with this ocz memory. its brand new as well. i just spent 169 dollars for this just a little more then a month ago. it has a lifetime warranty. i guess what im asking now is what do i do with the memory? how do i find out about any issues with it?

thanks guys. i was almost in the " take a hammer to an $800.00 dollar computer" stage. you guys saved me. thanks again.

Looks like the memory could be bad then. Stick it back in on it's own & run the test software posted by wahnula. If it does turn out faulty, get it replaced. If not there may be something else causing the issue.
Thanks for the star wahnula.

Did you set the voltages correctly? OCZ and other performance memory, needs slightly higher voltage settings "by default" to run correctly at it's specified timings.
Otherwise you will get problems like the one you describe.
This is not to say that you don't have a bad module, just that it needs the voltages and timings adjusting in the bios to the specs provided by OCZ, BEFORE you right it off as faulty.

Very good point paparazi.
Check in the BIOS for anything relating to the memory timing & voltages. If it isn't set according to the manual for your type of memory you could have problems. I assume that both modules are exactly the same?
