Let me start by saying I am a novice with phone systems. I have three very thick manuals for this system, but I can't seem to find what I need. I am trying to move phone extensions for two phones. I have done this before by renumbering the first extension to a random unused extension and then renumbering the second extension to the first one. Then finally renumbering the original one to the second extension. This works fine as long as you know the extension of the phones you are switching. So my simple question is how do I find out what extension a phone is if I don't know? I don't know why this is so hard to find in the books, but it is. Thanks in advance for the help.

The quickest thing you can do is call a display phone from that extension, and read off what it says.

You might have to enlist the help of someone else to answer the phone.. but if you have an operator sitting at her MLX-20L, then you already have the solution to your problem. :)

At the phone in question, press speaker and dial #00. The display will show the extension number. Then press speaker again to exit the program mode.

You can also use Feature 00 and Feature *00, or Menu>More>Prog and Exit (or Home)

If the telephone in question is a display phone, you can also press the Feature butoon and then 00 on the keypad. This brings that phone into programming mode and will tell you the extension number in the display. To exit from programming mode, press Home.

I never even realized that it showed the extension number there when you go into programming. Of course, that still only works when you're sitting at a display phone. :)

Thank you so much. I was able to get the extension by having someone look at it when I called them. I forgot that when you go into program mode it displays the information there as well. Thanks to everyone who responded.
