Help,
I am somewhat new to BackUp Exec. My technical guy moved out of state and left me to learn this on my own. Here is my situation. I have a Windows 2000 Server with BE 8.6 and IDR. The server has a DDR4 20/40GB tape drive that I use for daily backups. Now that I am w/o a tech guy I want to have the ability to rebuild my system from scratch in case of a fatal crash. I believe this is called Bare Metal Recovery. Does IDR does this?
I would like to store the IDR backup file on an 80GB external pocket hard drive. I can then store the drive in a safe deposit box. I will update this backup once a quarter and will rely on this off-site storage to rebuild my system to the latest quarter, and my tape backups to bring it up to date.
My problem is I cannot figure out how to do this. I have read the user guide several times, but am having trouble setting up the external hard drive as a device/media that I can use.
Also, I think I read that I need remote IDR installed to use disk-based backup. Is this correct? If so, is that a different license than IDR? I really do not want to go through the expense and headaches of upgrading my BE. If I need a license key for remote IDR for 8.6, is there some place I can go to buy it?
Please walk this novice through the procedure to do this. If I am incorrect and IDR won't help me rebuild my system from scratch, is there another product you recommend to a cost-sensitive novice?
Thank you!!!!
