I was playing around with 2 video cards. 1 AGP and the other an ATI All-in-Wonder Pro card. I downloaded the most recent driver for the ATI card and restarted the computer.

Now the problem: The computer operates normally, with one exception... The Windows 98 startup screen NEVER goes away.

That is to say, Windows will prompt me to log on, and I can enter my password etc, but I just can see it. It's almost as if the Windows 98 startup screen is a blindfold to the rest of the operating system.
I could probably even send an email, if I could just see beyond the 98 startup screen thats in the way.

Any suggestions????

Running dual monitors? How about booting to safe mode? Then deleting the ATI latest drivers and try again with whatever Win98 wants to use. See if that makes a difference.

Thanks. You were correct, this did the trick.

Apparently, the driver I downloaded from was incorrect causing the problem. Everything seems to be working ok now.

Thanks for the help.
