HELP - cannot hear dial tone but the phone works

Hi, I have a phone that is acting very strange. You cannot hear anything through the hand set. If you grab an outside line and dial a phone number, it will call properly. The person on the other end cannot hear you and you cannot hear them. The simple solution seems like it would be to replace the hand set. I did that. Nothing. Then I replaced the whole phone. Nothing. I rebooted the whole phone system. Nothing. I have made no changes to the phone system programing and the phone worked fine at the beginning of the week!

Any sugestions?

Sounds like u lost the tip and ring pair partne phones will function without them but will have no dialtone.
Try plugging directly into the phone system.

Ok, I plugged a phone diretly into the phone system port and it works fine. Do I need to run all new wire to the office where the phone is or is there an easier solution?

try to reterminate and or replace the connectors on each end , if that dosnt do it try swapping the first pair with a spare pair if you have one
