Hello

Have a Merlin Magix R4 - when plugging connecting more than 8 extensions, extensions around those ports go dead (phone just blinks message light) - Extension 10 does'w work at all. Replaced 25 Pair cable, tried different punch block, even have pre-wired rj11 (allen tel at125) Same systems.

Could the 024 be bad ? - haven't worked much on Merlin, and have been assigned to fix the issue

System Configuration:
Slot 0 - Procesor
Slot 1 - 800 GL-ID
Slot 2 - 024 TDK
Slot 3 - 016 TRR
Slot 4 - Merlin Msg - 12 Port
Slot 5 - 800 GL-ID

For Example - if Ext 12 and 13 or plugged in, not one works, if i unplug the cable from the phone on 12, 13 works and if I unplug 13, then 12 works. I have checked the amp connectors and they are secure. No wet, or bad wires on the punch blocks.

The way the boards are arranged in the carrier looks unusual. The way I would populate the carrier is as follows:

Processor
024 TDL
016 T/R
Merlin Messaging
800 GS/LS-ID
800 GS/LS-ID

The existing arrangement may (or may not) play into the problem you are experiencing, but I'll defer to members who have had much more experience with the Magix than me. [smile]

The board layout is OK. In fact, if I have a T1 Module, I like to put it in slot 1.

I must ask:

Is this a NEW install?

Did you do a BOARD RENUMBER?

Am I correct to assume you are using ONLY single pair Mounting Cords?

I think that's where we should start.

I would look at the wiring, it sounds like something on x12 and x13 when connected shorts the rest of the system. Are these wire runs possibly split? I would make a cord and connect it directly from the 66 block on x12 (and then on x13) to the phone. See if the issue happens. If it works fine, there is something in the wiring causing the issue. If it does still happen, make sure it's not the phone. If it's not the phone, it could be something with the 024tdl card.

This is not a new install - has been running for a couple of years. I have setup a new punch block and installed a new 25 pair cable and went through all the extensions - Ext. 10, 25, 28,29,30,32,33 are all dead, even with nothing else plugged in. The other extensions work, but i am only able to test one at a time.

This is what makes me think it's the 024 card, but not for sure. Is there anything in programming that could cause this.

I can't think of any programming that would cause extensions to behave like that. If the configuration on the backup/restore PCMCIA card is current, try restoring off of it and see if that makes any difference (if you haven't tried that already). [smile]

So you established a new block to troubleshoot this issue? Could very well be the tdl board. If you have easy access to a replacement then that is the way to go.

Do all of the boards to the right of that board work correctly?

Yes, all the boards to the right work correctly - I do I take the board out of service and then back in

You have to power down the system to replace the board.
Be sure to perform a Board Renumber once the system powers back up.
A good idea is to backup the configuration to the pcmcia card before powering down to replace the board.

Ok - have a refurbished 024 TDL on it's way - since then, yesterday the system just started to reboot itself - all the phones would go off/on and sometimes will not come back up. I currently have to system turned off - Could we have additional boards in the system that have gone bad, or could the 024 be causing this.

If your probem doesn't go away with the replacement 024TDL, then look at replacing the processor & or power supply.

Good luck

46 years in the business and counting.

There is a known problem with a run of 016 T/R boards where a percentage of ports would go to sleep. Rebooting the system wakes them up for a while, but soon they will out again.

Replacing the 024 board seemed to do the trick - Thanks for all your help.
