I want upgrade(via clean install) the old P-III with win-98 to Win 2000 Pro. Just run Upgrade Report utility (chkupgrd.exe from ms) that examined the computer and
listed known software and hardware issues.

Hardware incompatible:

Display adapters Intel(r) 82815 Graphics Controller, Hard disk controllers Digital Camera DISK device (not currently present), Modem Conexant SoftK56 Data,Fax,Speakerphone PCI Modem, Sound, video and game controllers/ Avance AC'97 Driver for Intel(r) 82801BA Controller, BDA IPSink (not currently present), BDA MPE Filter (not currently present), BDA Slip De-Framer (not currently present), NABTS/FEC VBI
Codec (not currently present), World Standard Teletext Codec (not currently present).

Software incompatible: Intel(r) Graphics Technology (in Control Panel). Also, IrfanView Help file incompatible and Microsoft DirectX 9.0(requires upgrade).

Does this Win2K upgrade make sence?

Check if you have drivers for Windows 2000. You can check in the CDs provided with the system or when you have purchased computer parts. You can also check in the manufacturer's website. If so, you can go ahead and upgrade.

Motherboard is discontinued and not supported. What drivers required? Does this drivers is on Win 2000 CD or come with previous computer parts?

What I can guess from what you have posted is, chipset should be Intel. Intel Chipset drivers for Windows 2000 should be enough for most of your system board devices like hard disk controllers. For your Modem and soundcard, Windows 2000 drivers should be available from the respective manufacturer's website.

Chipset software for Intel:

Driver for graphics controller:

The chipset software should have drivers for mostly all of the onboard devices like Audio, VGA, and LAN.

If you have retained all the CDs given to you when you purchased your system, you should check if there are any Windows 2000 drivers in that. There should be driver CDs given for Motherboard, and other components you purchased separately.

thank you. PC is PIII 866MHz (MB on Socket370, Intel 815E chipset, video on board). I find a driver's CD "Intel series" that went together with this PC, and there are few Win 2000 drivers: RealTek Audio Driver for win2000, Intel VGA Drivers for Windows 2000. Should I take newer versions from web? There are note for Intel Graphics Driver on website:
"Note: If you have an AGP card installed in an Intel® 815E/EP chipset family based motherboard, then you will not need to use these drivers." My MB have an "Embedded 3D AGP VGA", does it required the aboved driver still?

Not fully clear for Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, is this the the latest one that need be used?
INF Update Utility [INFINST_AUTOL.EXE] (685KB) 8.1.1.1010 11/21/2006
( 2000&lang=eng)

Is there any preferences of a choice of software installation modes -Interactive, Silent or Unattended Preload?

Need to be upgraded a BIOS also?
There is an 'AWARD BIOS Flash Utility' on CD (intended 'to update the BIOS to a newer version without changing components.') Should I install it? As I can see from Award BIOS Upgrade center, the BIOS upgrade is not free?
