If the harddrive fails to load will the telephony side of the BCM still work?

That's basically the question. I had a GASM8 go bad as a result of a lightning hit to a phone connected to it. It also took out the DTM and a DSM 32 in the system. I replaced the modules and now they won't intialize. The status light on the three MBM's stay blinking. The DTM is working.

I hooked up a monitor to the BCM to watch the boot up and the autocoreupload file fails.

It's a BCM 400 4.0 with a gasm8, dsm16, dsm32 and a dtm in that order from top to bottom. I know there is a lot of info I left out, but I was trying to make the post short.

Yes. telephony resides on msc. HD has vmail, ip addresses, passwords, all ip related items

So I probably have a bad harddrive and msc?

If that system took a lightning strike, all bets are off.

If the autocore upload fails, you need to restore your system from the drive (assuming it's still good). You need to do a full restore and leave everything checked EXCEPT for telephony (and registry if it's listed). Be advised though that you will loose all your voicemail messages and ip settings will need to be put back in. Hope you don't have contact centre ether.

I had to do 2 in one day a while back. Was a long day!

Right now I can't log into the BCM. I can download Element Manager from the BCM, but it won't let me login using EM. My passwords don't work thru the serial connection when it asks for a password.

The MSC status light is solid once the unit is running. That's why I thought it might only be the harddrive. The DTM is also running fine. Thanks for the help.

Do your phones work? If so, I'd say the msc is ok. Does your vmail work?

The MBM's would never intialize, so the phones didn't work. I changed out the harddrive and everything came up. Thanks for your help guys.

It's always good to install all the patches(desktop and SU_System) on your new hard drive in a spare bcm so then when your replace the defective HD the telephony portion is preserved.
