I have an advance tech coming up, while me personally, my level of knowledge is none and his is more on MICS not really BCMs, we use a1 support but they didn't sell this product and wont' give us anymore support.

WE have a BCM400 with a bad drive. My question is, if a bad drive causes failure in voice mail and the remote admin ability. When we replace it with a blank drive and no backup, it’s supposed to just start working again??

Do I need to format and install something on this hardrive before its put into the bcm? I have all the key codes but no software? While, this is a foreign site, we are coming into it with no prior knowledge besides what sprint has left us in the book.

On that note, does anyone know BCM support companys, that will give support for systems they dont' sell.
I was under the impression A1 did that, but it seems not.

Thanks Phillip A. Yancey

Provided it's pre-programmed, once you install the new drive, bring it online, set your IP address, restore from backup (if you have one), or re-apply keycodes and rebuild voicemail/applications programming.

There are many, many companies out there that will support systems they didn't sell. It's called "gaining a new customer". Sounds like you need to find a new vendor.

so, Once I replace the harddive, when you say bring it online, is it like reseating a router, when when I remote onto the system it will have a walkthough? My conusion is if its a blank harddrive where is the BCM software coming from it its not on the drive?

Phillip.

You'll need a null modem serial cable to talk to the BCM, or use it's default IP on LAN 1 (10.10.10.1/24).

If it is a blank hard drive, you'll need to image it with the proper software for your device (either 3.01, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7).

Easy way to find out (if it doesn't have the Nortel FRU Preprogrammed label on the drive) is to connect it and power on the system. See if the hard drive light is flashing after the system does it's POST "beep". Or, connect a keyboard and monitor to it and watch the boot sequence. If you see the NT loader screen, you're onto something. If you get "no bootable device found", you're out of luck.

I would hope that whoever sold you the replacement drive, knowing it was for a BCM, would have asked you what release your system was running, and would be nice enough to put the software on it for you. Otherwise you may as well have gone to the local computer shop and bought a 20GB drive and saved a few bucks.

You will need to make sure that the MSC core has the correct firmware to match what is on the hard drive. This will prevent you from having problems applying patches in the future. If you have went from a 3.5 to a 3.7 then you will have problems restoring the database. You will also need to load the MSC card.

Well, I just got back from the site, we found that even replaceing the harddrive we still had no led for drive actitiy and the other leds were still blinking. I turn the unit on, and could not hear any reving from the drive, Im assuming its a bad power supply/connector or the board the supply plugs into with the atx connect.

Where know either tomorrow or monday when we swap it out. Im guessing the powersupply is just a standard atx with p4 connect right?
Any ideas?

If its the power supply its getting ghosted.

I have never had a hard drive cause the problem you are having. for me it's always been a motherboard with leaking Cap's. I have replaced 6 BCM 1000 and 3 BCM 400 with this problem. PAA for the BCM 1000 is PAA 2005006015 and the BCM 400 is PAA2005006321.1 Ver 2
