Hi all:

Solaris 8

Growing a volume that is part of the rootdg. Have verified that I have space with the vxassist command

# vxassist maxgrow depot2
Volume depot2 can be extended by 2201600 to: 56308121 (27494Mb+409 sectors)

I issued the command;
# vxassist growto depot2 56308121

There were no errors, or any response from the command. Came back to a # prompt.

The disk space as reported by df -k has not changed. Documentation I have says nothing else is required but why do I not see the additional space?

It takes a while to complete..do a vxtask list to see if veritas is still busy.

vxtask list is empty

# vxtask list
TASKID PTID TYPE/STATE PCT PROGRESS
#

Can you bring up the GUI ? It's a lot easier to use -

/opt/VRTS/bin/vea

Hi

You also have to grow the file system after you have grown a volume. So for a ufs file system you'd issue the command like:

growfs -M [mount point]depot2 /dev/vx/rdsk/rootdg/depot2

Then if you do your df -k you'll see the expanded volume.

Hope this helps.

I did the growfs command as specified and the filesystem di grow, but only by 1 GB.

What happened to the rest of the space?

The 'vxassist -g rootdg maxgrow depot2' says I cannot grow anymore.
