HI.

I will need to manage and reconfigure IP addressing on a Frame Relay network with old BayNetword BayStack AccessNode AN devices.
The routers were configured few years ago by another company and not the ISP nor the customer (and not myself) knows what is going on...
The customer has the password for the devices.
I don't know if the customer has the original product documentation or disks because it is a mess there and the previous network admin doesn't know much either...
The devices do not accept telnet connection from the internal LAN.

I have no experience with such devices, but I have experience with Cisco routers.
The network has 3 small sites with Frame Relay (hub and spoke) using registered IP addressing, and I will need to reconfigure it for private IP addressing.
I know about IP addressing and routing, this is not the problem.
I don't know anything about these devices so the basic howto is what I'm looking for...

I currently don't have more info like model numbers or software version - I have not yet been at the site and I'm now doing some homework before my first visit.

I have searched for info, but didn't find much about these devices - have I missed something?

Here are some questions, but any additional comments or links can be helpful:

* I have not yet visited the site, and I don't know if they have the required console cables.
I do have Cisco flat serial console cable with DB9 or DB25 connection - will it work if I don't find the original cables?

* Do I need a software like Quick2Config on a PC, or can I simply access the device and reconfigure it?
If I need the software, which one and where can I download it from?
(I'm now downloading Quick2Config version 1.3.2 but I don't know if this is what I need. Is it?).

* Any tip for newbie is welcome.

Thanks

Hi,

The straight Cisco cable will work fine to connect via the console. FRom there up can configure the ethernet port using BCC.

To change the ethernet port IP ADDRESS
1. type bcc (then type config, you will get the config prompt up with a #)
2. type ethernet 1/1
3. type sho conf -r (this may not work depending on software version.)
4. If the above doesnt work type show config -a (this is the same as show run in cisco)
5. you will then need to type in the original ip address of the ethernet port with the mask or you could cut and paste that line.
6.Then you need to delete the original ip address by typing delete.
7.you can now add the new ip address with mask to the ethernet port.

HI.

Thanks for your answer - I will try it when I get there (probably this week June 26).

Few more questions:
The main office router is currently connecting 2 branches and has another link to ISP. I think that they all go via the same F.R. phisical link (different DLCI) but I'm not sure and I will know only when I get there.
What I do know is that the same main office router is currently connected to ISP.
I will install a new firewall and a new ADSL link to ISP at the main office, and then I will need to change routing table (default gateway) of the main office router to point to the new firewall, and I will also need to disable one logical F.R. link (DLCI) at the main office router (the link that is currently connecting to ISP).

Any additional tips for these tasks (disabling a logical link, and changing default gateway)?

Thanks again.
