Hello all,

I just received my ASBCE Portwell CAD-0230 and reading through some documents I am not really sure where to begin.

The ASBCE shipped with a R8.1.1 USB Thumb Drive however the documents indicate the software should already be installed.

I only get a Link Light in M1 Port so I am assuming that is the management port.

How do I log into this thing?

Also a bit confused on EMS

This isn't really a plug and play device!

The document you need is Deploying Avaya Session Border Controller for Enterprise.

The Thumb drive is just a back up.

Yes M1 is the management interface.

G van Hamburg: Thank you for the document, I will review.

I have logged into to the ASBCE via serial and have began configuring the ASCBE.

I am stuck on the "Domain suffix" field. I entered .com and it does not like it. What exactly is it looking for? How does everything else look?

It should be company.com

Thank you, janni78

What about:

Organizational Unit
Organization

ACSS

This is all company related.

OU could be IT or ICT
O could be the name of your company.

if this is not a production sbce I’d just leave it blank.

G van Hamburg: Thank you. Figured so however you never know with Avaya.

Any idea why all these process would be failing?

From what I know is that these processes are not relevant during first install. At the end it says complete so that’s what you are looking for.

Thanks for all the help thus far. I have spun up a App Server / WebLM Server and have loaded in the license file for the SBCE.

Question the the Portwell Ports once I get deeper into this project.

I did not set up Port Bonding. My understanding is:
- B1 (Public IP Address)
- B2 (Not Used)
- A1 (Internal IP Address)
- A2 (Not Used)
- M1 (Management IP Address). Should this be on the Internal Subnet as well?
- M2 (Not used on Portwell SBC's - for HA)

ACSS

The M1 port should be on the management network, which in smaller installations is the same as internal.

The A & B ports can be used for any side but think the examples use B for public and A for internal.

janni78: Appreciate it.

Please confirm if my idea seems OK.

So I have my IPO on our Data VLAN and Voice VLAN.

Data VLAN: 192.168.1.XXX

Voice VLAN: 172.30.20.XXX

The only thing on the Voice VLAN are local J179's, the IPO Acting as the DHCP Server and My Voicemail Pro App Server.

The Data VLAN has my SIP Trunk along with everything in reguards to remote workers (Remote SIP J179's, IX Workplace App and eventually the Avaya SBCE)

The Avaya SBCE will be on the Data VLAN for Remote Workers.

I have a App Server used as a backup server on my Data VLAN and also spun up WebLM for the Avaya SBCE on this server as well.

I was thinking possibly put the Management Port on the Voice VLAN, at 172.30.20.XXX

Then put A1 on the Data VLAN and B1 with its Public IP Address.

IPO LAN: 192.168.1.251 (Data VLAN Currently with FQDN for Remote Workers, SIP Trunk)
IPO WAN: 172.30.20.1 (Voice VLAN - Local Phone DHCP Server)
App Server / VM Pro: 172.30.20.2 (Voice VLAN)
SBCE Management Port: 172.30.20.10 (Voice VLAN)
SBCE A1: 192.168.1.250 (Data VLAN)
SBCE B1: Public IP Address
Backup App Server / WebLM for SBCE: 192.168.1.249 (Data VLAN)

Thoughts?

derfloh: good to know. I do not recall any documentation mentioning the Portwell acting as it’s own WebLM server. Is there documentation on setting this up? I
Already have the licenses tied to the Host ID of the App Server. Do you know if they can be moved to the Portwell Host ID?

Assuming I need to Enable the Local WebLM Server?

Before doing so, how can I update the "Management IP" to my Voice VLAN?

ACSS

derfloh: Appreciate it.

You are correct. The WebLM Address is displayed after activating Local WebLM and is a clickable link.

ACSS

Hello all. So I got the Avaya SBCE Licensed using the Local Portwell WebLM Server.

Watching videos and going through documentation, I have some questions:

First question is why am I only seeing the Device "EMS" from the drop down and not the SBCE as well?

Also, Under Device Management, I am showing the option to Install this device. What needs to be done here?

You need to ‘install' the sbc. On the right of the screen you see ‘installed devices’ and the sbce is not yet commisioned. press install, enter dns servers, chose A1 as your dns client (or B1 if applicable) and enter the A1 IP settings. scroll down, press save and then the box is ready to be provisioned.
