-refurbished gateway W323-Ul1 about 3 years ago. It came with nothing but a charger.

-reinstalled xp pro for the owner 2.5 yrs ago
-when doing so had an issue with the usb ports functioning.

-had all the 'correct' drivers from gateway site, but usb still would not work.
-XP did recognize the devices, but usb still didn't detect anything

Eventually found something searching google. It addressed this issue.

However, its time for a reinstall and I can't remember what search string I used. The cd I had burned with the drivers for the previous install did not contain the usb drivers.

*I am aware gateway says to just download the motherboard/vid driver for that device & usb should work. This isn't the case though.
They had worked just before the format and reinstall, but I forgot about this usb problem. =(

Anyone suggest some generic drivers for usb?
Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks!
The O/S installs with XP sp2 (should have said that earlier.)
It has been updated.

I will try the 2nd link registry edit. Will post results after trying.

Have attempted the above with no luck and also downloaded all the listed drivers from gateway site.
Technically the model is also an MX3210
-have searched google with countless search strings, coming up with nothing that is helping.

-the only thing I can say is already stated above. I do recall this issue, but for the life of me can't remember where I found a driver that worked. I definitely wasn't a gateway site.

Also, an emachines sticker underneath the laptop as well. However, going to their site, the MX3210 model is not listed (nor is a W323-Ul1)

Out of ideas, any more suggestions?

Thanks, will give some of the suggestions a try.
I just find it very puzzling, but I'm sure when there is a resolution something will make sense then.

Will reply to this after giving it another few tries.
