Hi, I have a program written in Foxpro 2.6, running since 1999, and this year it started to make problems in printing, (I print in both languages; English and Arabic), and suddenly one day it started printing little squares instead of the arabic font, and I found the english font changed, can anyone help me on what to do?
thanx.

What happened - what changed?
What operating system(s)?
What version of foxpro exactly (2.6 - 2.6a) ?
You'll need to provide more information if you want this forum to help you.

Rob.

Hi rob,
thanx for your interest and here is the data:
I don't recall of any hardware changes.
the operating system was changed twice before; from win95 to win98, and then to win 98SE, but it worked fine with the later one.
the version of foxpro was 2.6, I upgraded to 2.6a hoping it will solve the problem, but it didn't.
I finally rebuild the executable using 2.6a, but no change.
I thought it was a printer problem, but windows prints both languages without problems.

awaiting your response,
Usamah sayed

The problem is not foxpro specific.
It is Windows (98/98SE) specific.
Probably you have some problem with the installed language packs.
You can manually select those language packs and install them from the microsoft update internet pages.
Personally I would reinstall the language(s) that you use.

Rob.

Probably printer driver issue. When I was using Foxpro 2.6 (DOS) I either use the right printer driver for the printer in use, or the Generic Text Printer driver. If your printer driver is corrupted, you may have to re-install it.

hi again,
to rob444,
I can use (and print) word and excel with no font problems, for that I did'nt think it is a windows font problem. also I'd like to tell you that the OS I have is "Arabic Enabled".
I didn't install arabic fonts, I just use the ones provided by Win98SE.

To medic,
I tryed to reinstall the driver, but it didn't solve the problem; I tryed also to install several compatible drivers but with the same results.

P.D.: when I copyed the program to another PC, a newer one, I got the problem of "divide by zero", but I click "Ignore" and it goes on smoothly, with no printing problems !!!

can this piece of info help finding the solution, the original PC (the one with the printing problem is a Pentium, 180 MHz, with 64 MB RAM, and a 6.4 GB HD).

I herd there is a patch for printing problems, can anybody point to me where to get it.

Thanx to you all.
Usamah Sayed

Hi Usamah,

As far as I know there is no patch for printing problems, there is a patch for the "divide by zero" problem.
See both links:

As far as your printing problem I can only think of the following possibilities:
- delete the foxuser.dbf and .dbt files before starting the application.
- there might be a change in the codepage codes used by your program.
This problem could be found in the tables (dbfs) and/or in the config.fp or config.fpw.

Good luck!
Rob.

hi rob,

Thanks for the advice, I'll try deleting the foxuser.dbf and .dbt files and restart the application.

I'll tell you what happens next.

thanks to all,
Usamah Sayed.

Hi again,
well, I tried everything, but no use,
at first, it printed OK. but the next day, it did it again.
I tried deleting the foxuser.dbf (and I didn't find the foxuser.dbt file) but I found instead foxuser.fpt (and I tried both; keeping the file, and deleting it) but no use.
I seem to have some hardware problem conflicting with windows; being reflected through the printing process that the foxpro application generates.
I give up with this machine, and installed the Foxpro on a newer machine (PIII, 750 MHz, 128 MB Ram)and installed the distribution disk, then pathed for 2.6a, and then pathced for divide by zero, and copied the foxpro project and build a new application, it worked fine, but at a point it had an error (INSUFFICIENT MEMORY), can you explain to me what have I made wrong???
and WHAT is to be done to correct it???????????

I hope this time it will work !

I feel optimistic.

Thanks in advance,

So if I am understanding you correctly:

You did delete the foxuser files.
After deleting them everything worked fine.
But then the next day it stopped working again.
You then deleted them again but the problem continued.

If so than that is plain weird.

If not then I have an idea as to the problem.
But I need to ask two questions. Does the font look right on the FP screen? If you do a print perview does it look right. If you create a new file and select the font does it look right.

If your responce to these questions is "No, it doesn't look right. I'm seeing those annoying boxes on the screen as well" then I can tell you what the problem is.

But if all looks well on the FP screen, but just not on the print outs than I am clueless.
