This problem has been bugging me for a while and I am wondering if anyone else experiences it or has a solution. I have checked the MS KB to no avail.

If I apply formatting such as bullets, numbers, centering to a line of a Word document, the format is applied to the entire document. I can click the undo button and then the format only is applied to the selected text.

Anyone else seen this? Kathryn

Thanks, but no it doesn't. I am using Word 97, (should have mention that, sorry)

That problem seems to be specific to numbered lists, mine is more generic. Any formatting applied anywhere in a document is applied to the entire document. Weird. Kathryn

I am using 97 as well, and have not come across this. If you want to send me your doc, I'll be happy to take a look at it. Not promising I can come up with anything, but, maybe worth a shot....:)

Thanks for the offer, but it is work stuff, so I can't send it out of the office. Oh, well, I guess I will just have to uninstall and reinstall Word. Kathryn

Have had this happen in our place. Appears to be a problem with styles. Because all the rows in a bullet or numbered list are linked, there are times when Word appears to change the default format (style) for the bullet or numbered list hense everything changes.

I don't believe we solved the problem. We either got around the problem by redoing the document or tweaking it until it looked about right.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Your reply jogged my memory. That's it. I have the Update box check in the Style box for the Normal style.
