I have an Investigation Report. It contains many sections. It is grouped on people within the investigation. The group headers contain subreports dealing with different sections of the investigation. One section, the narrative, which is just a large text field containing an overview of the investigation starts 2/3s of the way down the first page. If the narative is less than 1/3 long it prints properly at the bottom of the first page. If the narative is long it doesn't start printing until the second page leaving a large white space at the bottom of the first page. How can I get the narrative subreport which is in a group header section to always start on the first page on continue on if necassary.

I have checked many times and there are no new page before or after boxes checked. There are no keep together boxes checked either.

Is it because it is in a group header or what??

Both sections and objects are subject to Keep Together boxes, so verify that neither of them are checked. Is this text field in a subreport? It too has it's own Keep Together sections.

This may be the result of a CR *unplanned feature*, but it sounds like a keep together issue.

That was my thoughts too. I have checked every keep together box i could find on the report and none were checked??

I can send anyone the rpt if they want to look at it.

Is the narrative a subreport? It makes a difference where to look.

Yes the narrative is in a subreport that is in a group header section.

Keep togethers within the subreport and on the subreport section are all unchecked.

I'm as puzzled as you that [Keep Together] is failing. But as a work-round, you could use the Length({your.field]) on the long narrative to see if it should fit on the page. If it won't, then split it and include on the page just the portion that would fit, with the rest on a new page.

Can't do that because it is a memo field.
You can't do operations on those.

Hi

Check whether the 'Keep Group Together' is Checked. If so uncheck it. Uncheck the Keep Together of the subreport and database field.

Thanks krishna but i have stated above that there is no keep together box checked anywhere on the report or the subreport.

:) first thing i checked.

Krishna makes a good point--there are two types of "keep togethers"--so you mean you have unchecked "keep together" in the format section AND "keep group together" in report->change group expert->options, right? I guess there is a third "keep together" here, too--the subreport itself as an object can be formatted, so go to format subreport and uncheck "keep object together", if you haven't already done so.

Otherwise, do you have an unusually large report header that you could minimize or suppress? I would play around with resizing sections in the design window, and see if that makes a difference. Also, you might check suppress blank section for each section.

I can't believe it. I am sure I checked all the boxes. Because LB was so detailed in his spots to check - I checked again. Under the Format Subreport section all three boxes were checked!!!????

I unchecked that one and fiddled a bit and things are working!

I hate computers.

Thank you very much to LB and Krishna for staying determined and helping me out. I really appreciate you guys. If you ever hit Edmonton I owe you a beer.
