i choose that the fax is on auto ans. mode , answer after 2 rings , and silent ringing .... still not working
I take it you put a analogue phone on the line to ensure you are getting it to ring?
Robert Wilensky:
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.
He means make that it is ringing with a regular analog phone attached. Could be a few things. If it is a dedicated line and not hooked to any other devices you might not be getting enough ring voltage from the C.O. Also if it is an analog extension of the Panasonic PBX it usually only outputs 90v ring voltage, and for some devices this isn't enough. Used to have issues with answering machines hooked to the PBX not getting enough ring voltage to make them answer. Also make sure it is the number you think it is. Try another fax machine could be faulty.
yes please , i sent for cannon and they sent me a configuration which is
In reference to setting the ring time to 2 rings but without making a sound, we would like to provide you with the following steps to take on the fax machine itself:
1. Press [Menu].
2. Use [Up/Down] to select <RX SETTINGS?>, then press [OK].
3. Use [Up/Down] to select <5 RX MODE?>, then press [OK].
4. Use [Left/Right] to select receive mode, then press [OK].
5. Select the receive mode that you prefer. We believe that <FAX/TEL> would be the best, as it switches between fax and voice calls automatically.
6. <SET RING START TIME>: Use the numeric buttons to enter the duration (0 to 30 seconds) for which the machine listens for the fax tone before it starts ringing. Press [OK].
We believe that this should be set to 7-10 seconds.
7. <SET F/T RING TIME>: Use the numeric buttons to enter the duration (10 to 45 seconds) of ringing. Press [OK].
We believe that this should be set as low as possible, so 10 seconds.
8. <SET DEFAULT ACTION>: Use [Left/Right] to select the default action the machine will take after the ringing ends, then press [OK]. This can be set to either <RECEIVE> to receive the document, or to <DISCONNECT> to disconnect the call. We recommend to set this to <RECEIVE>.
9. Press the [STOP/RESET] to return to the standby mode.
10. Press [Menu].
11. Use [Up/Down] to select <MACHINE SETTINGS?>, then press [OK].
12. Use [Up/Down] to select <4 BUZZER VOLUME>, then press [OK].
13. Use [Up/Down] to select <CALLING>, then press [OK].
14. Set this as low as possible and press [OK].
15. Press the [STOP/RESET] to return to the standby mode.

Please unplug the fax machine from the telephone line/extension and plug in a plain ordinary telephone to the telephone line/extension.
Then ring the fax machine number.
Does the plain ordinary telephone ring?
ok thanks - well then it is a fax machine issue not the extension.
Now at the fax go through the following troubleshooting procedures.
First check the line connections
here is the link Link

The fax cable should have an RJ 11 telephone plug on the telephone end.
It will only use one pair to bring the telephone line to the fax that is the center pair.
This would be red and green or the white/blue pair depending on the cable you are using
Can you just unplug the cable from the pot phone at the phone end and plug that in?
Move the fax closer to the outlet so you can use a standard phone cord. Make sure the fax works. If it does you can try moving it away again, using the longer cord. If it does not work at this point, you know your cord is bad. The center pair is all thats needed. You can usually buy longer patch cords pretty cheaply.
