Hi,
I got a customer with a rather strange setup, I'm trying to give him the best config possible, but there seems to be limitations working against me, here's the deal:
Customer got a single POTS line with a second number ringing differently on the same pair (main number, full ring, 123-456-7890; second number, two short rings (somewhat like an internal call), 123-456-7891). He's already got his business cards made with the phone/fax numbers clearly identified as different so there is no way he'll change that. Point is, the same line is used for voice and fax, and of course, is in the phone system.
Gladly he uses an ata port for his fax so I was able to configure the "Fax answering" functionnality in the auto-attendant to detect and forward fax calls.
Here's where it gets funky... Customer WANTS/NEEDS the auto-attendant so he won't have to spend a few hundreds dollars on a switch (Ultracom100, NCI424, Ring commander, etc etc) for the fax, and also likes the auto-answer feature, giving him a publicity opportunity, as well as to NOT need any kind of external mailbox supplied by Telco.
So I set him up a standard auto-attendant with company greetings and custom greeting prompt. This way a voice call is detected and sent to ALL phones (3), and fax calls sent to fax ata port. So far so good. Thing is, the delay between the end of the custom greeting prompt and the transfert to attendant is too long for his taste (can't blame him, I think it's a little long too).
I have been suggested to replace the custom greeting prompt by a CCR tree with a "Home transfert node" to attendant extension rather than the traditional "home menu node". It does greatly reduce transfert delay, however, all fax calls are disconnected rather than forwarded to the fax ata port :S
Anyone ever run in this kind of situation? How did you solve the issue? Any trick I don't know about to reduce the transfert to attendant delay?
