Hi! I usually can solve the problems on my computer, but this is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

I have windows 7 professional.

I am supposed to have 30 mb download and 5 upload. When I check my speed on speedtest.net it says 35 mb download but with upload it just says "connecting", I know I have some upload because otherwise I wouldnt be able to go to any website. When I try to send an email with an attachment it just doesnt send, I tried to upload a file through ftp to test, and it was also taking a LOONG time!

I tried another computer and it worked, it showed 5 mb upload. So it has to do with my computer.

I tried with an Ubuntu LiveCD through my computer and it gave me 5 mb upload, I connected through wireless to an insecure WiFi around my house and it gave me about 1 mb upload. I tried in safe mode and no upload

I dont have a firewall nor router, was connected straight to the modem. So I guess the problem is only when I connect to my computer through the wire. Because of that problem with the upload speed it takes so long to surf the web. I checked for malware, virus, spyware, and nothing, its a relatively new computer, and the upload was working 5 days ago. This is driving me crazy, anybody?! Thanks!

in case your ethernet patch cable (from the network port on your PC to the modem) got kinked, try another one...
Another possibility - the settings for the Network connection on your PC - under Status, Properties, Configure, Advanced Properties, see what the setting for Speed & Duplex is - and try using other settings to see if any work better than what you have.

Great! it was in auto-negotiation, i changed it to 100 mb full duplex and now is working! thank you very much!!

It's nice when it's something simple. The settings sometimes get changed without human intervention - cosmic rays flipping a bit is a typical explanation!

One thing.
Change the device it's connected to as well.

If that's set to auto, it will most likely now be defaulting to 100/half

We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.

You will not be able to change the other settings in a non managed switch or a home router setup. They typically don't give you options in the settings for those ports.
