Hi group. I've recently been placed in charge of a Nortel CS1K (61) that is nearing the end of its life. All has been pretty well (if it works don't fix it!) so far and I'm happy to say that by 15+ years of managing an Avaya has done little to prepare me in this new endeavour! Recently I've been told that from time to time (1-2 times per week), a misbehaving/misconfigured set plays a fast-busy for an admin when she conferences in parties. She conferences in users a lot, probably does this 10-20 times/day without issue. Here is the scoop: a call will come in on one of the lines she covers, or her own line (er.. . DN) and they will ask to speak to someone internally or externally. She engages Conference (A06), contacts the other party, and presses Conference again. It is at that time when she will sometimes catch a fast busy. All the parties are there (caller, her, the person she called) + the fast busy. When she hangs up, the parties remain connected and the fast busy goes away. I managed to catch this while doing an enhanced trace on her terminal (004 0 03 03) but I cannot figure out where the fast busy is coming from. Her DN is 5252. The call comes from the 720 area code, and we're conferencing in the number ending in 964. Help!! Bill

Did you test the conference card to see if it is fully functional? LD 38: Conference Circuit Diagnostic.

Thank Tim. I'll check that out and let you all know the results.. .

Ok, here goes. First, I did a LD 22, CEQU. Here it is:

Next, I went into load 38 and did a STAT on 001 and 017 (are there any others?)

CNFC 00 DSBL 00 BUSY
CHAN 00 DSBL 00 BUSY
.stat 017

CNFC 00 DSBL 00 BUSY
CHAN 00 DSBL 01 BUSY

Ok, it looks like none are disabled. But I know sooner or later this admin is going to be calling me with the same issue. Do I disable, then enable these now? How do I do that? Will it help?

Thanks so far!
Bill

If you haven't already done so and she is the only one complaining, replace her phone. It could be something as simple as a sticky button causing this.

Here is the command for testing the conference loop in ld 38

CNFC loop Test conference loop.
Tests conference loop for channel, group and switching
faults.
Note: Both the conference loop and the adjacent TDS/MFS
loop must be enabled to run the conference test.

Ok. Turns out she is not the only one complaining. It doesn't happen all the time but maybe 1-2 times per week. I checked conference loops 001 and 017 again and 017 seems to always show "CHAN 00 DSBL 01 BUSY" while loop 001 is not busy at all. Can I test this during the day?

The test will take the conference and tds loop out of service during the test.

How long will the loop be out of service?

I can deal with 5-10 seconds no problem.. However if it's 5 minutes that will be a problem.

It really doesn't say in the book how long they will be out of service. I do remember the light on the card coming on during the test so that would indicate to me the pack was out of service during the test. I seriously doubt you have a card issue, I think it's either a bad set or cockpit error.

Good morning group. I came in early this morning to STAT conference loop 017 and still saw that I had 1 busy. Who would be doing a conference at 7:45AM? So, I disabled (disl 017) it, enabled (enll 017) it, then tested (cnfc 017) it. The test only took 5 or so seconds and it came back OK. I then checked its status (stat 017) and lo and behold the channels came back "00 BUSY". I have a feeling that this channel or slot has been stuck for quite awhile, throwing up a fast busy sometimes for those that conference calls. I emailed the admin letting her know that her issue "may" be resolved and that I'd follow up sometime next week to confirm. I'll let you all know if this resolved my issue.
Bill

Very well could have been someone on hold listening to music is why you showed 1 busy.

Good afternoon all. My issue is resolved. Disabling, then enabling the loop did the trick. Thanks all!
Bill
