HI all.

I have started a new role and have been tasked with wiping an MX 3300 to factory default. Im not too sure where to begin with such a major reset, not too keen on going through every form and deleting each individual entry.

Cheers, Justin

Depends how far you want to go with your reset.
To make sure you get rid of everything you would be best to re-install the software.
This is also assuming you have access to licensing because it will need to be relicensed.

The alternative would be to run "DBMS FLAG OFF" from the maintenance commands and reboot the controller.
There will be some stale info left over but most forms will be cleared.

Thanks for that, I wanted to get rid of absolutely everything (mainly all the users) but it is a spare controller and most of the licenses have expired. alternatively, is there a way to bulk delete the users from the users and services config form?

I will give the DBMS FLAG OFF a go and as well.

Cheers

Hi Sarond,
DBMS flag has been turned off and I have completed a system reset. I have found that most of the forms have been cleared but the main one I was after (users and service configuration) still has all users listed.
This controller was used in a part of a cluster of controllers over multiple sites and as such, there are still 900+ users... like I said before, not too keen on deleting each one by one. Any further info regarding this would be great.

Cheers, Justin

Licenses have expired"

You can still reload the SW level that it is already registered for. Just no upgrade.

Full install without restore or re-licensing and it will be cleared.

+1 Just do a full install of the software.

Thanks guys, Im gonna jump in tomorrow and give that a go. Just a bit of confirmation... I am on MoL getting the right software, my current system is running the active software load of 13.1.0.33

On MoL I have found an .exe for the version 13.1.0.38 and only a .iso for the version 13.1.0.33. I dont have the software licenses so I don't think i'll be able to use the .exe but will the .iso file be fine?

Cheers, Justin.

The iso is for MXe Server
The exe is for 3300 Controllers

You will need to download the software and also the Software Installer Tool.
You can use the latest 13.1.x.x without needing to have Software Assurance.

Alright, this morning has not quite gone as expected...
I downloaded the software required for the upgrade, made my way through the software installer process and begun the upgrade. After the tool had found the software it initiated a system restart... after that my laptop lost connection with the controller completely.

In the view logs window it showed that the tool was trying to reconnect multiple times and failing. After a while I had to stop the installed tool but now, even after resetting again, I can't even ping the controller.

Any help is appreciated. Cheers

Oh my, can I guess that you were relying on the controller to provide a DHCP address to your laptop instead of statically assigning one?

You will need to load the SW the manual method at this point and re-license manually as well

I had assigned myself a static IP address under the same subnet but the connection was lost somehow.

any advice loading the SW manually would be much appreciated. Cheers

Do you have access to the Technical Handbook? The process is in there.

Essentially you will beed a Serial RS232 connect to the Mitel and an FTP Server to install the Software on to.

I have the technical handbook and trying to make way through the process. I have connected a serial RS232 and a straight Ethernet cable from the controller to my laptop.
I can now log into the controller through Putty and see all the boot params but a few of the steps I still cannot do. I still cannot ping the controller and I cannot get into the web server manager on the IP address either.

when in Putty I found that most setting were cleared. I managed to add back in:

boot device : ata=0,0
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
host name : bootHost
file name : /partition1/RTC8260
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.2:ffffff00
host net (h) : 192.168.1.3
gateway inet (g) : 192.168.1.1
user (u) : ftp
ftp password (pw) : ftp
flags (f) : 0x0
other (o) : qefcc

note: not the ip addresses I actually used

Also just confirming that I have an FTP set up correctly but because I can't ping or connect correctly, my FTP wont see the controller either...

this is a mess I know but cheers in advance.

OK, have your FTP Server with the Software on the same subnet to make things easier.

boot device : ata=0,0 <-- Change to motfcc to boot from network not HDD
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
host name : bootHost
file name : /partition1/RTC8260 <-- Change to Boot_Install
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.2:ffffff00 <-- this is the IP address of the controller
host net (h) : 192.168.1.3 <-- this is the IP address of the L2 Switch on the controller
gateway inet (g) : 192.168.1.1
user (u) : ftp <-- This is your ftp username to connect to the FTP Server
ftp password (pw) : ftp <-- This is the password for your FTP Server
flags (f) : 0x0
other (o) : qefcc

When you change what you need type @ then enter, the system will attach its network interface and try and load the software from the FTP Server.
It will load what it needs into the required partitions and when finished you should get a Web GUI using the IP Address.

You won't be able to ping or FTP until you get the software loaded and running. So boot it with those parameters and continue with your serial connection to see if you get any errors thatb stops the loading of the software.

@Sarond and JCCDM

Slight correction on settings below

[pre]boot device : ata=0,0 <-- Change to motfcc to boot from network not HDD
unit number : 0
processor number : 0
host name : bootHost
file name : /partition1/RTC8260 <-- Change to Boot_Install
inet on ethernet (e) : 192.168.1.2:ffffff00 <-- this is the IP address of the controller
host net (h) : 192.168.1.3 <-- this is the IP address of the L2 Switch on the controller FTP server with the software
gateway inet (g) : 192.168.1.1
user (u) : ftp <-- This is your ftp username to connect to the FTP Server
ftp password (pw) : ftp <-- This is the password for your FTP Server
flags (f) : 0x0
other (o) : qefcc <-- This value may vary depending on system type. Make sure you note the value before changing
To format a new Hard Drive set the value to FixPartition[/pre]

To format a new Hard Drive set the value to FixPartition

When you change to FixPartition the setting above is automatically changed back to qefcc (or whatever) on reboot is it not? That was my understanding and experience on all the CX/CXi I've had to reintstall. But you don't have to change it if the disc has had Mitel software on it before either do you as the partitions should be there on a re-install rather than a new disk or one that has been wiped by a format.

On older systems the "other (o) :" can sometimes be blank or motfcc

Also may not revert automatically. Common sense dictates that you know how to revert manually

@kwb,

Whoops, sorry you are correct. Was tired when replying to this one.

Wasn't going to get really far with my instructions. [banghead]
