I have a customer who has been using the vm to email feature for several years without issue. No the relay is broken. I have even went back to their provider, which is a locally company, and told them I am getting no response from the SMTP server. They keep telling me its not them, and I have hit a dead end with them.

I was thinking to just create a new GMAIL or OUTLOOK mail account and use that, but not sure if it works, or if the settings need to be changed. I understand with GMAIL you have to allow non-secure apps within the profile, if I am not mistaken?

I am just tired of dealing with the local IT company and need to find a solution to send emails.

A standard Gmail account with less secure apps enabled works great. I have used this many times with various customers.

so just to be clear..sign up with a new Gmail account, customervoicemail@gmail.com... and enable less secure apps..?

is it mail.google.com? port 587?

I use an Outlook (live.com.au) email address.

Here are the settings:

Gmail works on R11 (I think STARTLS wasn't available before R10)

just to clarify, this is VM Pro. I think the settings will be similar.

well..all that work and back to square one... LOL..

still not working.

16/08/2021 12:14:13.976 - Attempting to connect to host smtp.google.com on port 587, local bound address is (null)
16/08/2021 12:15:14.089 - CSMTPConnection::Connect: Could not connect to the SMTP server smtp.google.com on port 587. 10060 [0x274c] (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.) calling connect from CMailSocket::Connect
16/08/2021 12:15:14.193 - CSMTPConnection::Disconnect: Already disconnected from SMTP server, doing nothing

My next step is too see if either the local network people or the provider is blocking port 587...

have you made sure that you enabled "Less secure applications" in the gmail settings?

if you enable logging in the vmpro then you can download the logs / access the logs if Windows server
then you can see more clearly what the error messages are.

the logs I posted are from the VM Pro. I did enable less secure applications. Still no avail.

Funny thing is, I created an Outlook account, used the same port and the messages send out just fine. So something broken with Gmail maybe? IDK I am leaving the outlook account there since it works.

Gmail still works I just used it last week. Is it possible you are logged into multiple Gmail accounts in your browser? It could be that you are checking for less secure apps but you are seeing that setting but for a different account (has happened to me before).

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Just make sure you are only using the VMPro settings for vmail to email.
If you also have it on the Ipo as well then remove it from the SMTP SETTINGS ON IPO.

The vmpro should only be sending the info out.

STMP settings in the IPO aren't going to interfere with VMPro sending email - they are used for System Events emails

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, and what worked best for me was to spin up a linux server and install postfix. Configure postfix as your SMTP Relay to Office 365, Outlook, GMail, or whatever. Postfix is really easy to configure and plenty of configuration samples or help on the web. Then point your Avaya to the server. In postfix, limit the ip range to the IP or range of your Avaya.
