Evening.

I like simple right!
So I am putting in our own inhouse fax server. Brilliant bit of kit with true support from avaya.

I am putting in 40 users.
Built it on my DDI did a Module start point in VMPro with
Menu for F & Time out. F goes to fax server hunt group. Timeout goes to users extension.
DDI routes to VM:UserFax and have a fall back of users extension should it go wrong.

Rather than have 40 modules is it possible to have 1, but still route through to that users phone?

Thanks

Is it 4.1? You could use variable routing and route by DID maybe. I guess maybe i am confused. When i have set up a Fax server i have always just built a hunt group with the fax ports in it and then taken an incomming call route and sent it to a short code then have the short code dial the fax. Is there a reason you are using VM pro for this? are you using 1 did for voice and fax?

I am assuming you are using the users DDI number for their mailbox and Fax number.

You can set up the voicemail pro so any fax tone it hears it will send to your fax server. If you enable sub-addressing it will send dtmf tone with the call as well. I believe it will send the dtmf of the mailbox that the call was in. All this can be set up in the Voicemail Pro Client. Just press F9 to bring up general preferences. Enter the huntgroup/number of your fax server make sure sub-addressing is enabled. You may have to futz with this a little to get it working. I have not set one up this way personally but if you have the fax server set up to recognize your mailbox's dtmf I think this will work fine.

The embedded help document has some information on this system wide fax setup as well.

What fax server are you using?

You might need the "use as Prefix" option instead. It depends on what fax server you are setting up. This option will add whatever number you put in the "system fax number" box as a prefix. So if your prefix is 55 and the fax is for extension 201 the number will become 55201. You will need to setup a matching shortcode for this as well. something like 55xxx.

Kevin,

Correct. I am listening for Fax tone within VM Pro.

Have encountered another really bad issue on this. Its getting the system to send the cli info. Because its extension based and not trunk I have no idea on how to send the extension cli into the fax server so its emailed to the correct user.

The only way I can get this to work is route into VM Pro.
On F this transfers to a phantum user with unconditional forwarding to the fax huntgroup.
However with 50 odd users this is going to make my config tripe.

Is there any way I can do any thing with shortcodes or in VMPro.

when i do this with just incoming routes into the fax server i do this. say the incoming DID was 5678 and the hunt group for the fax group was 300.
my incoming call route has a destination of 5678 which is a short code.
then i make a short code like this
5678
dial ext
300D5678.
The 300 is the fax group and the D5678 is send 5678 when connected

This is using analog ports for the fax server and leaving them as default. if you change them to anything like DTMFF or anything else this wont work.

I tried the Huntgroup"D"cliwanted, gave me NU but had changed it to DTMFF, will try with out based on what you have said.

I take it the 5678 is the users extension also?

see i think that is where the issue may be. I have never triued to do it with one DID for both. with seperate DID's then yes that will be the extension you can use in the fax server.

I'll try it tomorrow and see what it does.
Im just trying to avoid having another bunch of forwarded users to confuse things.
I already have another two offices as dummy users on a non IPOffice remote site so the users appear in the internal directory.

Grrr thinks I try and do. May be I should admit defeat easier.

Thats why i use the short code method. to keep the configs way down in size. 50 regular users and 50 fax users takes up a lot of space in the config. short codes are so much smaller and easier to manage. Make 1 and copy it and just change digits. its a lot faster to set up.

Have you tried using the System wide fax number w/ sub-addressing. It seems Avaya has built this in for just that reason.

I agree with Kevin on having seperate DID's for fax numbers. It makes things a whole lot easier.
