When running IMS on a PC, users get an error message when attempting to play an embedded voicemail message from their computer (multimedia), but not if they play the message from their handset. If they are made a local administrator of the computer, the message plays from their computer. There is therefore a specific permission that needs to be opened up in order to allow them to play messages from their computer without being an administrator. DCOM permissions have already been opened up. What is the additional permission that they need to be granted?

Thanks in advance.

IMS is all about DCOM. I would check, couble check and triple check the DCOM config.

Is the user that the IMS services use an Admin user???

Fooball is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

What is the error then? Give us a chance.

The program was installed with administration rights and the DCOM settings were double and triple checked. (We have a case logged with Avaya and we performed a gotomeeting and had them check as well).

what happens is when the user is logged in as an administrator they can play the IMS message in both the multimedia and the handset. when we remove the admin rights and put them back into the users group they lose the ability to play their message as multimedia. they can play it across the phones.

here is the error that they receive.
---------------------------------------------------------
The system was unable to play your message.

If the system has been denied access please check that your handset is not on divert, or that the handset in not in use.

For any other error, please try again and if the error persists please contact your System Administrtor quoting the error obtained.

Access Denied.

Now then, if we give the user write permissions over the c: drive this works as well (but what would be the point of having security settings if we did that?) Which is why I believe it to be a permissions problem with a file on the pc.

Thanks again.

Is this a new install? If so, was IMS and voicemail pro installed on the server before it was brought on site and joined to the domain?

It is a new install and the voicemail pro was added on prior to departure here in our shop. but it was later removed after it was added to the domain. ( since we had to load the Outlook before IMS was loaded per the install steps) So it was on the domain before the working version of IMS and VmPro was operational.

Yes Sir, just to err on the side of caution i just logged into the server and they are correct.

There is a doc on there. Run through it, you need to do the dcom on the clents aswell, not just the server.

Thank you PlatinumGuy. I am reviewing and am seeing some settings that are not in the Avaya documentation that I will give fair due and try out.

Thanks for the link as well. I am adding it to my Favorites for future reference.

I have changed all the DCOM settings that were provided by platinum guy (thanks by the way) and I have triple checked them on both the users pc and the VMPro server, but the same error occurs when we take away their admin rights and reinstate their security settings. The client cannot play their messages across the multimedia input.

One other issue that Avaya has thrown their hands up with is Outlook 2007 working with IMS. I was told it wasn't supported yet and that was that, no word as to when it would be or otherwise.

Thanks again Platinum.
