After installing an update (4131) to Mcafee 4.0.2 I run into trouble with MCSCAN32.DLL a McAfee DLL. I tried to put a message on their 'forum' but bombed out. I then sent the info to the forum admin email address. The error messages are from OE and Netscape:

I had to turn Virus Scan off in order to use those programs. Can you tell me where I can get a good copy of MCSCAN32.DLL, my appears to have been dinged. Thanks

The only way I found around this problem was (1) to turn off McAfee Virus Scan Scheduler and VShield (McAfee not running at all) and (2) download from McAfee the latest SuperDAT file and install it. The SuperDAT file is a combination of both the latest virus data files as well as an update of the McAfee engine. Once this was successfully completed, I could use Netscape (4.75) without the invalid page error. With all the viruses and variations existant today, I didn't want to "surf" or view e-mail without having some protection -- downloading and installing the SuperDAT file did the trick.

PhiloVance-
I am having the same trouble that you were with annoying invalid page fault messages. I have attempted to view the link that you posted in your reply to your original message, but I am having no luck finding it. I have had to disable the virus scan to do any work online. I have tried updating the superDAT files. They have not helped the problem. Did you ever find a good copy of mcscan32.dll? I look forward to hearing from you or others that have had any luck solving this problem. teach43

Installing the SUPERDAT didnt cure the
problem for me whic occurred with update 4155
on 22 August. Might have been because I deleted
the MCSCAN32.DLL file and replaced it with an
older version that I transferred to a floppy. Have
e-mailed Network Associates re problem but have
have no answer yet. Solution is probably to switch
to different program but does anybody have help
to offer? At the moment have to switch McAfee Virus
Scan off completely to use Netscape 4.7.
Pls reply to barry.appleby@swipnet.se

The link didn't work for me either. Only by copying the entire link into my clipboard and then pasteing into my browser would it work. It is still there and it is also under my name (Philo Vance) on Virtual Doctor. Don't hold your breath waiting for McAfee to answer.

I am running with InoculateIt only and it seems sufficient to my needs. I haven't uninstalled McAfee because for some reason that module Mcscan32.dll is necessary for my screen saver to come on after 15 minutes of inactivity. I just disabled it is all. If anyone needs to contact me, use my email address (visible from the profile). I still have the superdat file (I think it was back in April), but don't know the number, and I guess I could send you mcscan32.dll if you really need it.

PhiloVance-
With a little digging I did find your previous VirtualDr. post. Gosh, it sounds like McAfee is NOT rated too high with a few of you. Up until Wednesday, I had absolutely no problems with my software. I did go out and purchase a newer version today. I hope that I do not need support in the future...sounds like it doesn't exist:-( Anyway, that's for the info. Renee

I'm also getting the message MSIMN casued an invalid page fault since I updated McAfee this past week. Does anyone know if updated to a newer version will solve the problem?

had same problem...ran sdat4155.exe /f in dos to force all upgrades...fixed problem (should work with any superdat.exe file)

nehpets2k is correct. Any Superdat.exe should fix the problem. That is what I used in my original solution. I did not run in dos, just in Windows but seemed to clear all problems up, and restore (or create anew) my mcscan32.dll.

I have confimed with McAfee Prime Support that the Virus Scan 4.0.2 product is no longer supported. The scan engine technology has changed and this is why you get errors in mcscan32.dll when you try to update the DAT or SDAT engine (>4155). The only recommended solution is to install Virus Scan 4.5.1

This is only a very recent (aug 2001) change. My last update (4154) worked perfectly and the problems only started with 4155.

I'm having the same problem. I ran the superDat.exe and it didn't solve the problem. I can see that I have a new mcscan32.dll file, but I still get blue screens. I found that if I turn off the VirusSheild -> System Scan, the problem blue screens don't happen. The only way to install Virus Scan 4.5.1 is to buy it, right? I'm not very happy with McAfee...

I have the same problem(s) with McAfee: I had Dr Solomon Anti-Virus, which they now own -- was running great UNTIL I downloaded the trial version of McAfee's Personal Firewall (around 8/24/01). Since then, I've had nothing but mcscan32.dll errors; I CANNOT use the "Search" feature on Iexplorer (5.5): it closes out instantaneously & puts me back to the Desktop ... occasionally freezes. The disinstall feature of the Personal Firewall doesn't do its job. And to make it worse, I cannot do a Dr. Solomon virus scan on my PC without getting error messages / crashes referring to the mcscan32.dll . McAfee ansers me that they do not support the product (either the demo Firewall, nor Dr Solomon), and do not acknowledge conflicts between the programs. Any solutions for me "out there" ???

Welllll..............

There are some freebies..., AVG Anti-Virus at is an excellent free AV. There are others but I can't think of them right now.

Noticed your complaint about the uninstall not doing it's job. This is a common situation. The following link is to freeware pages: and some of these freeware products are very good. There is a product called Install Watch (from the freeware pages) which will keep track of everything that was changed when a product was installed. The problem most uninstall's have is the original log (generated when installed) usually gets deleted and so they have no information to go by. I've found that installing it again and then running the uninstall right afterward will usually fix it, but you may not want to do that.

Anyway, be a little cautious about some freeware, even from this board, as it tends more often than not to be spyware. A good product for checking for spyware is a program called Adaware (also available on those pages).

Don't give up, have fun. (-: PhiloVance

It sounds like had the same problem. After having searched for an hour, I went on the FTP site where my Dr SOLOMON download the update and upgrade from "ftp.nai.com/pub/antivirus/datfiles/4.x". From there I downloaded the file named "sdat4157.exe" (size 3 meg). It seemed to be the full update version of SUPERDAT the new McAfee's program. After the installation, I choose to restart my machine and so far every thing seems working properly.
You see when you do the regular update or upgrade, the program doesn't do the complet job so that why we're having this problem. I hope my solution will help you out.

Good luck !

Phénix's solution worked for me. I've installed the sdat4157.exe and did a restart and no errors. I am using Virus Scan 4.03 with the virus data file number of 4157 which is the latest DAT file, so now after a month I'm finally current.

I forgot to mention that I fully uninstalled McAfee and then reinstalled a fresh version with the sdat4157 and I am still getting no errors.
