After installing an update (4131) to Mcafee 4.0.2 I run into trouble with MCSCAN32.DLL a McAfee DLL. I tried to put a message on their 'forum' but bombed out. I then sent the info to the forum admin email address. The error messages are from OE and Netscape:

I had to turn Virus Scan off in order to use those programs. Can you tell me where I can get a good copy of MCSCAN32.DLL, my appears to have been dinged. Thanks

Thank you so much for your help in this forum. We downloaded the update for Nimda and have been having problems ever since - everything crashed our browsers. We are not terribly savvy and assumed that our computer, which is getting older, was getting ready to die. We backed up all our data, uninstalled unnecessary programs and reinstalled Netscape. We just convinced ourselves to get a new computer when, on a whim, I did a search on mcscan.dll and found this forum. We downloaded the update from and everything is still working fine (knock wood).

Thanks all! (although a new computer would have been nice...)

I'm using McAfee 4.0.3 and was experiencing the same fault protection errors after running 4166xdat.exe.

Thanks to this thread, I downloaded the latest SuperDAT from the McAfee site (4140intel.exe) and it cleared up the problem.

Thanks everyone!

Hey all,

Yesterday I bought Mcafee's internet security package.
I already own Norton Internet Security 2001 and think its tops but I fancied a change.
I uninstalled NIS and installed Mcafee's software.
It made such a mess of my hd, I had to totally reinstall Windows ME!
It wouldn't scan, the firewall wouldn't start, the system just hung on startup if I had the option to scan the boot record!
I uninstalled it and tried it all again and the same thing happened!

The very next day, I took the whole load of trash back to the shop and swapped it for the latest version of Norton Internet Security 2002 and am very impressed with it! No problems at all and one of the best integrated packages you can buy!

I can't understand why people buy Mcafee products? They are cheap, freeware-like programs which are bugged (utilities anyone???)
