Hello

I am new to this forum so apologies if my question has already been answered elsewhere. I have searched high and low for an answer to my question but no luck.

We have a BCM50 installed at our work place with Avaya 1220 phones. One of our handsets fell and broke so purchased a new one online.

I understand that the registration has to be enabled on the Business Element Manager. So i have followed these steps:

Business element Manager > Resources > Telephony Resources > IP Sets row

But when i click on the IP Sets row nothing seems to happen

Could someone please tell me how to enable registration.

Secondly I had to download BEM as due to some certificate issue i can't use the web launcher even after downgrading java to version 8 update 66.

Any help will be appreciated.

First of all, you need to download the final Avaya version of Element Manager at..

You might need to add the link in your Java settings and change the setting from very high to "high"

The newer versions of Java will now be OK as long as you follow the workaround in the attached file link below.

As for the problem with the IP phone, you need to unregister the set first. This will free the DN and port.

If you are using the older version (Nortel) of Element Manager, then its possible that you won't seen the data on the bottom part of the screen.

If you are using the Avaya version, then you may have to reboot the BCM system, but it might be worthwhile getting your Java sorted out first.

Hi FirebirdScrambler

Thank you for your reply, Will certainly try these steps. But how do you unregister the old phone?

Once you see the data in the missing part of the bottom screen, you can select the DN and remove it.

Hi

FirebirdScrambler

Tried editing the secuirty file of Java to delete the 2 MD5 but it won't let me save it back in the same location saying access denied [sad]

In the instructions, it states that you copy the existing file into a safe place and edit the existing file.

What I did was to right click the Java Security file and click "open" to get it to open from the Notepad program.

Once in there, I searched for MD5 and deleted "MD5 ," and finally looked for MD5withRSA (or something like that!) and removed that data with "," before saving the file.

I then opened up Element Manager and it worked. This was done on a Windows XP machine today.

Hi FirebirdScrambler,

Tried restaring the app too but didnt help. Any suggestions please.

Hello Sean

That's a good one!. Have you tried logging in via the OAM port using 10.10.11.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.252?.

I haven't seen that error before. You may have to reboot your BCM in case the web interface has failed to start.

Can you browse onto the BCM OK?.

Hi FireBirdScrambler,

My BCM ip address is 192.168.200.7 have also tried logging in with 10.10.11.1 but has the same error.

My colleague has the Avaya Business Element Manager installed on his PC (as i had to uninstall mine to use the web based one) It logs in there fine using 192.168.200.7 but just cant see the enable registration option as per my original question.

Do you think its still to do with the Java version? As i could not save the edits in the security file and this web based one just opened fine with Java version 8 update 101.

As your colleague is able to log in with his copy of Element Manager, then I would completely uninstall Java and Element Manager. Reboot the computer and start again.

It might be worth seeing if you are able to remove old copies of Java first.

My colleague could only log in into the installed version of BEM the one where we could not enable registration.

Just spent over an hour on the phone with BT. They went through the same options on the installed version of BEM instead of the web based one and again they couldn't access the 'enable registration' option on my computer via remote access. They finally managed to do it thru their systems and the new phone is finally working.... phew

Sicne then have googled around and managed to figure out that if i install java version 8 update 66 and then update it to version 8 update 101 but disable this version while leaving the 66 running via 'configure java'. The web based BEM seems to work fine then and lets me log into my system and and see all options :)

Thanks for all your help FireBirdScrambler
