Just did an 8.1.64 install with essential editon with embedded voicemail. For some reason this simple install is being a PITA. It is set up when you call in it hits the main hunt group and after 20 secs the main mailbox should answer. After 20 secs, you just hear dead air but a recording is made. No greeting played, no beep, nothing but dead air.
I formatted and recreated the SD card, recorded the greeting again and powercycled the system after reinstalling the SD card. The phones downloaded new firmware so I took the opportunity to call in while none of the phones would ring. The voicemail picked up and played the prompt. I figured that it was working now.
After the phones came back up on new firmware, I called in and again, dead air when voicemail picks up.
You can see it connected to the mailbox in system status.

Can you call the Main HG Ext from within the Phone System and get the Greeting? What kind of Lines are in the system?

Yeah, I've built short codes that point to the main hg mailbox and the greeting plays fine. They have analog lines hooked up to a combo card. Another issue with it is that it is not disconnecting the outside caller when they hit the dead air so its tying up the line.
Before I rebuilt the card I activated the mailbox for the reception phone and set it up with an overflow group with a phantom ext. forwarded to a short code to drop the call into its mailbox and the same thing, dead air.

I know its basics, but did you make sure it is active for all calls and not internal calls.

yes, active for all calls.

Try setting the Gains on the Lines to -3dB. See if that helps.

Some other things to check: Make sure the no answer time is less than the overflow time and make sure Queueing is not active.

Thinking more about it, I bet queue is the problem. When the system was down it saw all phones as unplugged and sent it to the voicemail. When the phones came back up, it began to queue them again.

Queuing is already turned off. There currently is no overflow group so that timer is not in the equation. Like I said, I can watch the call in active calls on system status and I see when it stops ringing to the group and goes to the mailbox for the Main HG.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

Could be something with R8.1.64. R8.1.67 is out there. Although with analog lines you may want to downgrade as I've read some issues with analog lines and 67.

I was mistaken, it is on 8.1.67. So I guess I'll try rolling it back.

as long as you have not a lot of messages recreate the SD card because it might cause a problem.

it is quick and faster than downgrading.

Already mentioned that I did a format and recreate on the SD card, still didn't help.

sorry missed that [blush]

or I forgot from the top to the bottom reading all the posts [ponder]

I agree, simple little 8 phone 3 line system with 1 mailbox and its giving me this much hassle. At least its the company that shares the building with ours so I don't have to drive across town to work on it.

those are the ones that go really bad usually. Had that twice, one in the same bldng and the other one across the street and both were a nightmare.

Have you tried renaming the group??

Haven't tried anything yet this afternoon, they are a title company and they are doing closings this afternoon, and the only way to the comm closet is through the closing room.

Does monitor show that it takes the greeting?
If yes then raise a case.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

so rolled it back to 8.1.52 and the V2 combo card no longer sees its daughter board....FML

update: changed software to 8.1.65.
call in, answer the phone and transfer the call to a mailbox, works fine.

call in, wait for hunt group voicemail to answer, it still goes to dead air. system status shows connected to #Main and it wont release the line. manual pull line cord from port to disconnect call. check the vm that was left and you hear the phone company recording "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again"
